With the Jeep Wrangler Jk Hemi swap build coming to a close, it’s time to take a look at a full price breakdown.
There are a lot of ways to do a DIY Hemi swap. Some ways can be more expensive, and others can be more budget friendly.
For my Jeep V8 swap, I decided to keep it easy in some aspects, while saving some money in other areas. Using Jeep speed shop components for the swap allowed the project to go very smoothly. The install of the engine and trans isn’t difficult at all. The JSS wiring harness and computer also made it extremely easy.
Overall, the project wasn’t overly complicated and it’s something I believe most people can do themselves.
Sure, you could drop your Wrangler off at a shop and have them install it for $32k... but doing it yourself can be a lot more reasonable to the average person,
Sure, it’s still a lot of money, however it’s something you can save up for and buy parts as your budget allows.

Having the 6.4 (392) Hemi in a jeep is amazing. 485 horsepower is insane, and I can see why Jeep wanted to offer this (as well as why they are asking a premium price). It is a blast to drive, and even the 5.7 Hemi would be an amazing choice.

I know I didn’t talk about Mpg in this video, I ran out of time, it will be covered in a future video.

Now a lot of people always ask about supercharger/turbo Jeep wranglers vs a Hemi swap.
Sure... boosting your V6 will make a lot of power, but it’s not going to last forever. It is a short term power gain. Eventually the v6 will blow up or die on you from all the added stress on the engine. Whereas a v8 is designed for the power and will give you no issues for many years with proper maintenance.
Ask around, see how many people have supercharged their jeep and blew it up (and then ended up going with a V8)... I only know 2-3 people who have had a supercharged Jk last more than 3 years and over 30k miles... so it’s up to you!

This DIY Hemi swap made my Jeep fun to drive again, at a reasonable price!

Ok before I finish watching I just want to compliment you on how good it looked when you popped the hood! Super clean and doesn’t look like a hack job. Very well done Ben.

Here’s me, watching how much a hemi swap is while I’m still saving for gears, axles, bumpers, pretty much the whole build 😂

I actually live about 10 miles away from Todds shop at Jeep Speed Shop. There arent many places I can take my jeep and know for a fact he wont bull shit you, he helped me with the most baffling steering issue at no cost. Ordered me the parts at cost to him and let me drive his 6.4 hemi jeep. lol. Stand up dude. And great videos man. This was an awesome series, its pretty unreal how places ask no less than 30k

Lol. People who say “is your time not worth anything” are a joke. Yes, it is. It’s worth the end product for half the price. My time is essentially worth the $15,000 more it would cost to pay someone else to do it. Instead, I get the knowledge and pride to say I did it myself. Wayy better than paying someone else to do it.

I did a swap and installed a 5.7 Hemi. Which is more than enough my 2011 Jeep Wrangler Sport 2 door hardtop (Dark Hunter Green). No lift, but on 34 black fuel quake blackout wheels. Exhaust is a cut down Borla. She only has 34k miles on the motor and transmission.
  • Half the price, that's a jargon. Great job. Keep it a sleeper. I'm planning a 5.0 Explorer swap in my TJ when my 4.0 hits 300,000' 47'000 to go. Live both your channels.

Going from a 3.8L to a 6.4L Hemi is a big upgrade. I’m sure you’re gas mileage actually went up, when you’re not nailing down the gas pedal. The 8 speed transmission is a big upgrade too.

I wish my wife and I had y’all’s energy ... we have a Gladiator and an LJ but we don’t have the energy or money. It’s awesome that y’all can work together like you do in the garage. My wife is starting to help me out in the garage since watching your videos. LOL. KEEP THE VIDEOS COMING PLEASE !!! God bless your family

I am 400% jealous. I cant wait to do a Hemi swap on my 2012 JKU. Sounds great my friend.
  • I swapped out the straight six in my 1981 CJ8 Jeep Scrambler for a 430HP LS3 hooked to a built 700R4, Dana 300 transfer case, and a Dynatrac Dana 60 posi rear-end. I put a Dynatrac 44 up front, and topped it off with a Lokar floor shifter, and a full Corsa SS exhaust. New advanced frameworks box frame, all new body kit, 4" lift, lots of chrome, all new corvette red paint, hardwood rear floor. A labor of love, and I got back 40 cents on the dollar when I sold it after 9 years. I think I only reused the VIN plate and some plastic ducting. Still... I would do it again.

My dad just did a 392 engine swap on his Gladiator. He picked it up yesterday. It sounds so mean!
  • @00ninja00
Compliments on your skills! Looks like a stock engine in there. Your work is clean as heck!! You got skills brotha, great job! I want a 6.4 in my gladiator so bad! Gladiator badly needs a v8, I could totally use the power when towing my 6k lbs boat. In my gladiator, it’s not only more fun for a v8, but it would be so useful! Thanks for the videos and sharing your swap with us, much appreciated.

lol an "eagled eyed" listener sent us a screenshot of this video (time code 1:11) of the "Jeep Talk Show" sticker on the toolbox! I watch your videos and I completely missed it. I especially like ya'lls unnatural love for RED jeeps. :D
  • bro... love all your videos. explain the process so all of us shade tree mechanics can either decide what we wanna do or reference theses videos while we do them.... keep up the great work
  • @Adam-th9vs
We own a 2017 and a 2019, my 17 is a 5 speed, my wifes 19 is an 8 speed. The 8 speed is an absolute game changer in how the jeeps drive. My rubicon has lower gearing but her 8 speed will outrun mine all day long without breaking a sweat. Now I just need to V8 swap mine so I can have the 8 speed lol, being disabled that will never happen. I can't even afford to put a new windshield in mine now, let alone lift it and engine swap it.

I see you reppin the Clayton Offroad shirt & banners, I've known Clayton for 20+ years, great guy and company!
  • @brauerbar
Hey. Thank you. I’m knowing about you with this video and start watching and liking all your videos. I wish I would have your knowledge!!! I’m new in the wrangler world but sadly I just bought a 2017 JK Sport Unlimited and I’m now stock with an engine misfiring cylinder 6 and after expending more than $7k In repairs (changing from radiator to coils and a lot of items) I’m learning that I have to replace the whole engine since the cylinder is not making compression… and I have exhausted all my savings. Greetings from NC
