Sketching Vernazza, Italy from a Video, Courtesy ProWalk Tours Channel

Published 2021-03-09
I'm able to sketch Vernazza, Italy, part of the Cinque Terre thanks to the good folks at ProWalk Tours channel here on YouTube. This virus has been hard on us all and traveling has been extremely limited. That doesn't mean you can't still visit these places thanks to walking tour channels. I have gotten permission to do this watercolor sketch from one of their many travel videos. I'll take you through every step of my technique so you can do a sketch of your own. It may not be as good as standing there in person, but it beats getting jostled around by all those tourists!

Like this video? Want to buy me a coffee or a new tube of paint... or generally just support the channel?
Now you can and it would be most appreciated. Once I get to my $1,000 goal, I'll be buying a second camera to record my mixing palette since it's the number one request I get. Cheers! www.buymeacoffee.com/steveatkinson

I love his pro walk channel. Isaac does the best job in this genre I’ve seen yet.

Thanks ,Steve, for the ProWalks compliments. I also watch Isaac's walking tours. Its the 1st time I've watched your channel. I love the way you talk as you paint explaining why you do what you do. It turned out great !

Besides Italian, water color is another language that I don't speak. Watching you was very educational. Thanks Steve.
  • I am a big Prowalks fan. Nice to see a painting of his video work. Great work

i've only ever used oils....but this is making me want to learn this style of watercolor\inking. Very fun! Thanks Steve!!

Wow, love it Steve. It looks beautiful framed. Thanks for the information on Prowalk tours. I'll check it out.
  • Really nice Steve! Love the suggestive pen rendering style. Not easy to pull off with buildings. Although it brings back memories of some real estate illustration projects I was not too fond of. I did them but... didn't love doing it. DO love watching it done well though. Great tips on the Lexington Gray and the ProWalk Channel. Also great to see another watercolor from you. I think you may have offended some Brits by calling that tweed flat cap Italian... just sayin'!

Beautiful! Like you, I am a huge fan of Isaac's work on Prowalk Tours. Would love to see a watercolor from his walking video of Civita di Bagnoregio.

Ciao Steve, the watercolor sketch turned out great. I really enjoyed watching the video. It was really interesting to see how you progressed from one stage to the other and your commentary was great. I really appreciate the show out! I wasn't expecting that at all. I would imagine our viewer base overlaps quite a bit. What do you have planned next?

Hi Steve... a nice change for you. I know he will appreciate it.
  • Well...was supposed to go to Vernazza in September 2020...then Covid came in the middle :( So I enjoy watching it here! Thank you :)
  • I'd never heard of Prowalk Tours. You can bet I'll check it out. This came out really good. How do you determine where you put your "dots" and why do you do that?
  • @jimjr4432
Wow, wonderful! Can you share with me what brush you used, I must have missed it. It appears to come apart for storage. Thanks and cheers! Jim

Great video, Steve. Your teaching style is very comfortable and your topics are engaging. Thank you! I don't know if you've done this before as I am a new subscriber ... but ... maybe you can say something about those delicious guitars I see in the background in some of your videos.
  • Soy de Argentina y veo todos tus vídeos, soy fan tuya! Y no entiendo que pasó, con pro walk, ya que no sé Inglés
