Hey. So I needed to rewatch this video a couple of times for it to sink in and let it hit home. I wanted to say as always thanks for putting your thoughts and experiences out there. It really does benefit ppl like myself that are too shy to. The way you got help from Ashley Adams is the way you have helped me in my journey. That being said I went to Catholic school for 8 yrs. I dealt with repression/depression surrounding my sexuality. My mom is now a born again Christian (former Baptist). It sucks to have heard from both of your parents that things are either black or white, wrong or right. That if I chose to live a certain way it's because of the devil's influence so I totally get it. Lastly, it has been increasing infuriating to hear from my mom and dad that their son is dead and keep referring to my old name when have repeatedly corrected them. It's sucks when your family who you were close to rejects your life choices especially when you feel you are just being the way you were supposed to be all along. All I can say is that I no longer need theirs or anyone's validation. I let go of organized religion as well and have never been more content with my life. You can see it in my smile everyday versus the years where I was miserable. Best of luck with surgery and I wish you a speedy recovery.

Once again a great video! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts with us! I, too, was raised Christian and was aware that, at least for me, that did damage to me in various ways. However, the realization that this can lead to simply not trusting yourself (because a thought could be from God or Satan) is something I only realized through your video. It certainly applies to me as well. You discussed so many other topics in the video and I can only agree with a lot of it, but then the comment here would become even longer than it already is ;-) Just one thing about the stuffed animals: that is so cool! I also still have a stuffed elephant ("Fanti") from my grandma who died very shortly after I was born, so unfortunately I didn't get to meet her. I am already older (50) and therefore it would never have occurred to me to take a stuffed animal to my surgery, because it would be "inappropriate" for such an old person like me. But, what the heck! Now my elephant is coming with me in any case! 💗🤗

I also have a similar upcoming surgery that I have complicated feelings about. This video was timed incredibly well, thank you. I want to try some of the things you mentioned as having been helpful for you, but I have to wait til I've moved out since where I'm living rn I don't have any privacy and don't feel safe to be vulnerable in the way I suspect these things would require. I really REALLY related to having to push aside emotions and intuition for a long time, and resorting to logical defenses because of that. It's something I've also been working on a LOT over the past year or so, and my girlfriend has helped me with it a lot as well by just giving me space to do so, and not making me feel like I have to defend myself logically.
