I think the Harris campaign definitely took the right approach presenting her as being positive, open-hearted and jovial, taking on the memes and the personal attacks with laughter. Let the Trump campaign make fun of her, make fun of her skin color, her gender, her appearance, and her manners. It only draws contrast to how dark the Trump campaign really is. To be fair, plenty of people make fun of Trump's appearance and mannerism, too. But those are entertainers. We expect an entertainer to entertain, just like we expect a president to govern, not the other way around.
