Trekking to Everest Base Camp from Start to Finish - Nepal March 2023

Published 2023-07-21
FAQ: we trekked MARCH 20-31, 2023.

Hiking Everest Base Camp with my husband and in-laws was both incredible & challenging. The trek was a bit tougher than I imagined, but not impossible. I wanted to share a realistic portrayal, so even though I have a few cringe moments in this video, I wanted to be sure to communicate my honest experience hiking EBC. We experienced freezing temperatures, slush and snow, as well as witnessed the most beautiful sunrise of our lives. Altitude sickness is also not a joke, so trek safely, slowly, and be sure to get travel insurance!

We came home full of memories from our time in Nepal. Our trekking guide Karan and our porters, Harka & Rajan, all local to Nepal, made our experience & we cannot imagine a better trip without them. We are forever grateful for them to share their beautiful country with us and be such positive lights in this world.

Nepal is full of breathtaking mountain ranges, and I would perhaps recommend taking the paths less traveled. Everest Base Camp is a bucket list trek for sure, but there are many other options in Nepal too, so I encourage you to hire a local trekking company & check those out as well.

If you made it this far- this video took my channel to the monetization stage & I just want to say how grateful I am. Unfortunately there was a song that needed to be switched out, so you may have noticed a very weird music transition. Regardless, thanks for being with me on this Youtube learning journey. I appreciate the support.

I am 65 years old Nepali retirement lady. Loved trekking. I have been to Poon hill, Mardi, ABC, Langtang. THIS November From 12 I flew to Lukla, met my guide n poter. AT Denbouch git High Alltitude n almost give up. Staying two nights there on19 I reached Everest Base Camp. Proud myself. This trek was most challanging , tough crazy amazing.... Finally I made it. No one was believed that I am nepali
  • I lived in Nepal with my family starting in 1974, leaving in '88. We hiked a lot of the area you shared, amazing the progress that has been made. My husband went to base camp 2 times. It is a beautiful place, thanks for the great video.

Wow, witnessing my stunning homeland, the majestic Himalayas, being explored by people from another country and seeing them interact with the beautiful Nepali community is absolutely incredible! It gives me goosebumps and fills me with pride for my country. 🏔️🇳🇵

That was a really good video that you made of your EBC Trek. I did that trek in late March early April of 2000. Yes, a long time ago now. A lot has changed since then. First, it was a dirt landing strip at Lukla. Still an awesome flight. Second, guides were not required as I heard they are now. We travelled in a group of four. One difference that we did was because we were independent we stayed two days in Namche and also two days in Pheriche on the way up. I think that this helped a lot in the acclimatation process. We also stayed the night in Dugla or Thukla and then went to Lobuche. The next day we went up Kala Pattar and back to Lobuche. The next day we went to EBC and returned to Lobuche. On the way down we stopped in Dingboche and the next day walked all the way to Namche. We did not have the snow and rain like you had at all except for one day going from around Tengboche down to Namche. Oh, and that day from Namche to Tengboche was hard. I wasn't expecting that. Other great treks are Annapurna Base Camp and the Annapurna circuit. Lantang is really nice too. I did those back in the 90's.

Thank you for taking me on a tour to Basecamp, now I can check that off my bucket list.
  • I'm a 52 yr old woman. It was heartening to see the "parental units" having a go. I'm TOTALLY gonna give it a crack

I really enjoyed this. At 73 I probably won't make the trek, but seeing your clear videos was wonderful. Thanks very much.
  • @sumanlahiri3033
Thank you so much for shooting and uploading this. Really helps one to understand what to expect on the treak.
  • @skoolie_life3261
I’ve always watched videos about people climbing Everest. I never realized what a trek it is just to get to base camp! Thanks for sharing.
  • @floridatrader1027
That was so cool. I have watched a lot of footage about Mt. Everest, but not any on hiking to base camp. Thank you for sharing your journey. I felt like I was there with you all.
