From teaching guitar, I learn a lot. A student asked me recently to show them Voodoo Child (Slight Return). It is a total immersion into psychedelic blues playing. It hardly gets better than this! Withing a lot of the great phrases and motifs of this song, is a common theme. It is the not G going down to the note E. A common "crying" or "moaning" gesture that much blues has in common.

It isn't just Hendrix, of course, but Stevie Ray, Buddy Guy, B.B. King, Eric Clapton, Muddy Waters, etc. who also have tons of that simple idea in their music. Beginners and advanced players alike can benefit from this rich gold mine of pure blues power.
