First Time Solo Backpacking

I like to think that I had never been on a solo backpacking because there was never a time or occasion for it. In reality, I hadn’t gone because there were a lot of fears sitting in the dark corners of my brain that kept me from trying it. As soon as I realized what had really kept me from trying solo backpacking, I knew it was time to change that. Come along with me as I try solo backpacking alone, and share some wisdom I gathered from my time on trail… alone.

  • This is so great! I have spent so many nights alone in the wilderness. I really think it is a big part of the person I have become. I was always so impressed when I met solo women on the trail. As a father to 3 daughters I wish it wasn't such a big deal. Thank you for putting this out there.❤
  • First, I want to say how beautiful this area is 😊 Second, I appreciate this video because I just recently started to day hike solo a few months ago. It was so scary for me, but I realized that if I want to see certain things, I have to go it alone sometimes. The fear I get before starting out the night before is hard at times, but once I'm out there, it feels amazing! I have even done a couple of 10 mile treks 😊 I ended up doing one solo trip I wasn't fully prepared for, there were other people around, but I wasn't able to complete my end goal. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed it, and learned from it. Thank you so much for sharing this 😊

I’ve been following you for a while and shocked you are still under 100k subscribers. Such great videos !
  • @ZachShock13
Been hitting the trails hard and solo this summer in WA, love the feeling of adventuring alone, almost confirms your desires and makes you very appreciative of the places you are. Keep doing great things Mak!
  • @nenaserafim1774
Loved the colour grading and lighting in this video - so visually pleasing and relaxing to watch. Also really appreciated all the advice about solo backpacking as a woman, it's made me consider giving it a go :)
  • @TLOverlander
As someone who does the YouTube thing almost entirely solo, I can appreciate the amount of work you put in to getting these amazing shots. All the while, wearing that suffer vest! Excellent work! The Lonely Overlander
  • This share felt like a hug and that added sense of encouragement I didn’t know I needed. Thank you 💗

  • @rw_too
Thanks for another amazing video. I always find your videos thought provoking.
  • First and foremost you look really great Mak. Toned out and just looking 🔥 I really appreciate this video. I haven’t backpacked solo yet but I have hiked alone and it is the most intimidating yet inspiring and bravest thing I’ve done. This video will motivate me even more to give backpacking solo a try. Happy Trails.

Hiking your own hike is flip’n the best time anyone can experience out on trail, it’s when you learn most about who you really are and what you really want from life. Just my opinion/experience.😊
  • @DominMarfa
Vibes and message are always just right. Thanks for another one ☄️.
  • @theWiggyFamily
I felt the same way. After four months on the road solo with two little girls, I found myself asking why I didn't see more solo moms out mountain biking, camping, hiking, or road-tripping. I came across many solo dads out adventuring with their kids. But in all my time adventuring with my kids I have only seen one other mom who was really out there solo with kids.
  • thanks I needed that....let me make a suggestion for a future video.....feet care... in the summer of 94 i worked with a wildlandd fire fighting crew and you had to wear special heavy boots that were not broken in and the blisters and pain were abundant.....you learned to keep your feet clean and use bandaids and mole skin to keep your feet under control..... see you in Redmond Friday !!
  • @JamesBrown-hv1xu
That cow chip makes good firewood 😅 please stay safe ❤️
  • Well no question about who is setting up or walking back for the camera. 🤣🤣 Lots of good info. Glad you enjoyed yourself. Thanks for sharing. -Aimee
