  • High staff turnover should also be a red flag. If there are new hygienists, assistants and front office every time you see your dentist that should be a red flag.

Me, a dentist, watching this because I donā€™t want to be a red flag šŸ˜ž
  • @thezm240
Biggest red flag in a dentist office. When they quote you a price for work needed to be done that equals out to a house down payment which also includes insurance.
  • @chelseaoocandy
My dentist has a receptionist missing half her teeth. That feels like a red flag.
  • I'm a dentist, and I agree with all the red flags. Unfortunately, dentistry is very subjective. What may seem to one doctor a cavity too small to need a filling, maybe to another doctor, a cavity worth filling. I see patients all the time that tell me their previous doctor diagnosed them with 10 cavities, when to me, only 4 need to be filled. Some Dentists are conservative, and some are aggressive. Unfortunately, this creates a lot of confusion for patients.

My dental hygienist niece warned me there is much poor to sloppy hygienist performance too. She said it did not used to be this way even ten years ago. It was simply not tolerated. Thank you for this! People must be extremely cautious WHERE they go to the dentist!

I think that one that was not mentioned, is when you have some offices that have extremely rude staff. Especially the ones that talk badly about patient. That to me I feel is not only unprofessional. But it shows me what kind of people they are.

    1. 0:30 no dental hygienist 2. 0:57 no perio charting 3. 1:45 fast appointments 4. 2:35 xray frequencies 5. 3:45 dirty office - infection control 6. 5:15 bad communication
  • @fixpacifica
I go to a small dental practice, and my dentist is the one who cleans my teeth rather than the hygienist. I love that.

I had a dentist tell me once i needed laser treatment for my gums. I denied it and also didnt have the money. Went to a different dentist and I asked him about it. He said, no your gums healthy. You don't need such a treatment! I love that whole office. Its small but great. šŸ˜Š

  • Not a dentist, but at an orthodontist office in the Albany New York area, where they were spreading mononucleosis because of their poor hygiene practices on the open floor plan cubicles. This is a huge multi million dollar private orthodontic Business. Escaladeā€™s and Jaguars parked out back. Needless to say I had to reach out to the health department. They gave my son mono. They would go and open drawers with the dirty gloves, and then come back to the patientā€™s mouth with the dirty gloves on and put them in the patientā€™s mouth. They also would clean up and set up for the next patient with the dirty gloves on from the previous patient. I barely could believe my eyes.

A new dental hygienist because the last one "is no longer with us" every time 6 months that I go to that dentist..... A huge red flag to me.
  • This helped so much, I had an experience when I was in my late teens, my current dentist wouldnā€™t listen to my concerns. So I told my parents and I switched to a great provider, thank you Whitney for this video!

I quit dental hygiene after 30+ yrs when the YOUNG dentist I started working for, when I said the patients were loaded w calculus ( bc the last hyg didnā€™t do her job ) told me to ā€œdo the best I can in the time allotted ..itā€™s better than when they came in.ā€ šŸ™€šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«šŸ˜©. These people have no idea their mouths are a messā€¦.not perio but burnished sub calc. They had never had a thorough cleaning and thought I was too rough. There are good offices out there but they are hard to find these days.
  • @amyosgood6044
My last dentist didn't chart my gums, and cancelled my cleaning twice in a row because "the dental hygienist had a family emergency". No problem, right? Not when they were over booked and had to push your cleaning out 6 months both times! When I was able to switch insurance that was excepted more places, I RAN! To a new dentist. I made my appointment, which they apologized had to be scheduled "next week", as they were booked the current week. Then called two days later asking if I'd like to come in as some one had cancelled šŸ™‚. It's so nice to have a great dental care team again!!

My old dentist was ripping me off so bad for 3 years . The staff were inconsiderate, rude and just rough while working in your mouth . During the pandemic one hygienist had no face mask and was constantly coughing . I finally gave in and wrote a review stating my experience . Now I am happy with my new dentist .The staff are friendly, very knowledgeable and extra clean oh and affordable šŸ˜Š

My dentist when I was a child didn't wear gloves or a mask. Literally hated going to the dentist. A year or so ago I found a great dentist and it's made my life so much better. Got me a waterpik and a sonic toothbrush. My mouth hasn't been this healthy in years! Love your videos šŸ“¹
