Zelda II The Adventure of Link Remake is the ultimate version of this game, absolutely amazing, it add tons of new stuff, item, dungeon, new game + and more. This is my #1 fan game ever.

Hey, thanks for sharing the OpenBOR game from a friend of mine. Btw, I am an OpenBOR game developper too and recently I released a 8bit-like beat em up called Pocket Dimensional Clash 2, and I would love to hear your impressions about it :)

abobo's big adventure is amazing. so many easter eggs, references and call backs for any retro gamer.

Super Mario Bros. Crossover is legitimately one of the best fan games I've ever played. Exploding Rabbit did amazing work on it. Hope he comes back to it one day. Thanks for the heads up on using the version 3.0. Also, amazing list! Please make another compilation like this one. I know of some good freeware indy games that could use some love :)
  • That He-Man game is freaking amazing. It was even playable on the Wii! Sadly, I was only able to play it by myself. Would love to have a 4 player session.

Dude! These look epic. I'dplay all 5. Scott was most excited about the He-man one where I thought Castlevania Revamp was hella cool! Yes, please do another. Hope you're doing well 😊

That He-Man game is pretty awesome, though a bit on the tough side for me.

Another great fangame kinda similar to Super Mario Crossover is/was Rom Check Fail, which uses the characters from a bunch of early Arcade games in one another's stages.

Saga4 was a fun tribute to final fantasy legend 1-3. It is a little hard to find, it was revamped as secret of varonis and is on steam, but just having the original music in the first iteration made it a winner for me.

Omg Abobos Big Adventure is SO much fun. I played it years ago. Now feels like a fever dream.

On one hand, I LOVE AM2R, it's such a good game. On the other hand, I kind of understand Nintendo's C&D, at least to a degree. Not only were they releasing, by complete surprise, their own remake, but the guys from AM2R, as you said, used Nintendo assets for their remake. Frankly, with all the time Nintendo had to send that C&D, and seeing how they even were able to release their fan remake for a few days before the C&D arrived, I kinda think Nintendo were trying to be nice (for their standards in this kind of things) by letting the game be released before putting an end to it. As for the other games, I've beaten Abobo's big adventure, it's a very fun game, and I've played Super Mario Crossover some years ago, I'll have to check what's new with the more recent versions. I'll have to check the castlevania and he-man games, they look fun!

You didn't mention a HUGE fanmade remaster of "Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link" called "Zelda Again: Link is Adventuresome". It's a gorgeous masterpiece that keeps getting updates!
  • @johnnylchase
UPDATE : Links have been added and corrected with the firls for each game!

These are great videos, really informative and fun to watch. + subscribe
  • Cool stuff! 🙂 I still need to find a programmer (again) for a game I'd like to have created, but I don't know if I have the strength (or the budget) to start all over again.
  • You should do sequels! But based on games that are physically released actual hardware! Like NES, SNES, Genesis, ect...

I have the AM2R along with a few other Metriod rom hacks on my Steam Deck
