My problem with creepypastas (all the ones I've read, which isn't many but I know the popular ones) is that they have a super creepy premise and start out all scary and suspenseful, then they just fly off the deep end. They always take it too far and they get silly. There are probably tonnes I haven't read that don't do that but all the big ones just seem to go off the rails.

The story "Footsteps" is actually a series on r/nosleep called "Penpal." It's really interesting and I would totally recommend reading it. There's around 7-8 chapters, if I remember. Edit: Also, on the Russian Sleep Experiment story, there's actually a short film adaptation here on YouTube. It's honestly a really cool adaptation and it's definitely worth the watch.
