I'm always reminded of the Peter Capaldi Doctor Who quote: "Do you know what it means when something chases you very slowly? It means, there's a reason they don't have to run" which is somehow worse.
  • I went to university with Brian Scissorman! Great guy, if sometimes a bit snippy. Always good for a cutting remark.

I'm as old as the saying "STOP don't open that door" and "I'm sure you, the master of unlocking, can use it" somehow that makes me happy
  • Mr X was even more intimidating in the remake. I spent so long in the save rooms because I could hear his footsteps everywhere

The first time that I encountered this mechanic was actually in the first Sonic Adventure on my SEGA Dreamcast. In Amy Rose's storyline, you're trying to save a bird friend with a chaos emerald from a hulking robot called Zero. He relentlessly chases you in the action stages and can only be stunned, until you fight him as the final boss.

Metroid Dread's 'death cutscene' is actually a Quick Time Event allowing you another chance at escape if you succeed.

I thought i was tripping when i saw Andy a split second before Lady D showed up 1:15

Glad we got a signature Jane for this video. Much better than that knock-off Jane they were using for a while.

The funny thing about the Dread EMMI's is that cutscene isn't actually insta death. I never managed it myself but those flashes when it attacks, you have two chances to parry/counter it to get free. Either when it's grabbing you or when it's about to head stab you. Just the timing is SO TIGHT that's near impossible. (To me as a casual player at least lol)

"GLaDOS spliced with a Demogorgon" Thanks Jane, I wasn't planning on sleeping tonight anyhow.

I'm convinced Mr. X and Nemesis are the reason I have gray hairs.

Metroid Dread beating Metroid Fusion for this list hurts a bit. The EMMI are scary for sure, but they can't touch you until you walk into their areas. The SA-X from Fusion was always a surprise on a first playthrough, and it had so much menace to it. You could only run from it until the end of the game. And your greatest foe being a twisted reflection of Samus was another level of creepy. The SA-X was the scariest by far

This one's a deep cut, but there's an old Indie game called Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery EP. It's a fantastic game, although perhaps a bit fake-deep. But there is an enemy called The Golgolithic Mass that is freaking terrifying and you can't kill it. It follows you across certain areas of the map and moves like three times faster than your character's fastest, so all you can do is try to run and wait for the inevitable. 😅

The funniest thing about Haunting Ground is reading a diary that was “written” by the dog, what he says about the burning man is really something
  • @ninjakirby9358
Fun fact: Mr. X isn't a name given anywhere in game, but was the name given to his action figure and the name stuck
  • @mms16
Mike, screaming? Whoever wrote the script didn't know Mike was going to read that bit

The Cerberus robot from Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty. You go from "Spy Thriller Power Fantasy" to "Alien Isolation" within the space of a single quest and with absolutely no warning.
