Most mechanic shops offer a standard check of fluids/tires/battery. Firestone, where I always get my oil changed, will check these things for free for me. They're supposed to charge $10, but they always throw it in as a freebie. But it would be a $10 well spent, for peace of mind. Check your oil every time you fill up. Oil leaks can develop quickly.

Oh snaps, this was great! Best road trip prep video I’ve found, thanks so much! I am a pretty experienced road tripper but planning a 2000km trip for my family of 8 next month and I was looking for a refresher to make sure I didn’t forget anything: you nailed it!

LOVE this video. Also, on one trip from Boston to NYC, we saw 41 states, 5 provinces, and USVI. Granted, that was a Thanksgiving pre-Covid... :-)

A First Aid Kit??? Here in Germany this is mandatory in every car. You get fined if you don't have one. Is this not the case in the US?

Good luck with paying tolls with coins. You probably have a better chance of using them in vending machines at rest stops. But thanks for the tips.
