Ohhh man I'm the girl at the table with Tara Strong at 10:47ish (Though you really only see my hair) That dinner had me feeling so bad for her. She was beaming happy until the food came - When she saw the eggplant in her food she shrieked "Wow that could literally kill me." to the guy who brought it. IIRC they originally brought her a meal with meat in it, she corrected them that she was supposed to receive a vegetarian meal and got brought the eggplant which she was 'deathly' allergic to. For the entire duration of dinner she was just messing around with bread rolls and butter stabbing them and lobbing them at other voice actors who came by the table. She made a butter and bread roll tower that she was hilariously proud of. She was determined to have a good time even though we were all eating and she was hungry. She made us go around the table and introduce ourselves, chatted with us all and really made the most of a good time with us. Like she knew we'd paid money to have dinner at the table with her and she bent over backwards to entertain even though she was miserable. Lovely lady. The moment I fully realized the chaos was when we went to get... Some sort of bag of con perks, on what I believe was the Saturday... and saw a staff member crying and visibly sweating under the stress. I felt bad for them until the full scope of things became clear later in the weekend after the news of them bailing came. Your video is perfect justice to the chaos of that weekend - I still have my conbooks and PONY BUCKS and some other things from the event only as mementos to how terribly bad it was and how the only real joy was Tara kindly trying to entertain us (And us just ditching the con to go to casinos when things really came tumbling down) I know of several people who charged back fully the cost of the convention through their banks since I guess in the eyes of the law, it was a huge scam :') Thank you for doing a video on this. It's a weird bump of memory for me and was stressful for everybody at the time but looking back at the chaos is somewhat nostalgic and funny now.

My dad accidentally ended up in the middle of all this lol. He was a pilot at the time and stumbled into the convention by accident. I was getting really into cosplay so he kept sending me pictures of the cosplayers. It was a lil awkward for 14 yr old me to try to explain to my 60 yr old 'doesn't know how Facebook works' dad what a Brony was. I wasn't in the fandom, it didn't really have a draw for me, but I still remember all those pictures and how hard he was trying to be supportive of my interests. I'll have to see if I have any saved anywhere. There was a really cute one of him with a Rainbow Dash cosplayer that always makes me smile.

The reason this con isn't as well known is because they're forgot to have the most important item present, The Ball Pit

las vegas and brony conventions have a very similar but opposite energy
  • Cosplay tip, if you are planning on wearing a very complicated costume like master chief on a hot day, get a cheap camelback pack and freeze the water bladder the night before. They’re usually slim enough to wear under your costume, so it will keep you cooler, and also help keep you hydrated throughout the day without breaking the illusion

Very funny seeing the 3:39 "Sydneigh" half-second blip because it has a similarly wild story surrounding it actually— It wasn't just cancelled, it was cancelled ONE WEEK before its scheduled date, and since so many folks had invested time and money (Nonrefundable plane tickets + artists' prints etc.) in going to this con, a different completely different group of people decided to set up a small-ish tent and put together "SalvageCon", featuring panels + events and even an appearance from Ashleigh Ball (The VA for Rainbow Dash/Applejack), who was originally scheduled to show up at Sydneigh. There are some wild MLP convention stories out there that never left that corner of the internet, even though they definitely should.

Being a kid in the mlp fandom was traumatising

The real question is how long til izzzyzzz holds a Garfield convention in her flat

15:23 "Today has been, by far, the most chaotic day I've had as a brony" is a line that i'm thrilled to be able to add to my repertoire of bizarre and obscure referential things to say when I am inconvenienced in a trivial way
  • Yknow, I’m not a Brony and that’s not really my thing, but I have a deep respect for the MLP news guys who helped spread the word to raise money for the guests, the regular folks who chipped in, and the guy who showed the bullshit pamphlets. Shows that these guys genuinely cared about making sure folks came out half alright.

Just imagine going gambling and you just see a group of bronies...

“the most opulent hotel ever” me: oh shit they got the venetian ...”the Riviera” Me:🤮
  • @spiderdude2099
The funniest and most hilariously impressive part of this is that the fallout from this led to the creation of an official “brony convention gold standard of excellence”
  • @consentclub8431
While I feel bad for the people who suffered at this con, the fact that a PONY CONVENTION UNION became a thing makes me extremely happy.
  • @iamaunicorn1232
"Oh we're gonna give you a fake money like vegas chips." Nope. nope. Red flag. Big red flag. I don't like doing that even when in a "trusted" casino
  • @alilaro
Okay, off topic, but that little crew of 'Equestria News' reporters constantly keeping up the bit are really cute. What a bunch of goofballs, I love it.
  • @ScorchieCritter
Ah yes. The memories. I was an Artist Alley vendor (or should I say "vender" as the badges were misspelled) at Unicon. You used 2 quotes from my post about it at 8:44 and 13:54. Another tidbit people might find interesting: At the end of the con, I was notified that I would be required to pay the state of Nevada sales tax. They failed to produce for me the needed form. I then was told to hand over the amount owed as cash in an envelope and they would "pay it for me." Yeeah. No. I didn't go for that.
