Keir Starmer's first cabinet has been described as 'the most diverse on record for education background', contrasting the last Tory cabinet which was made up mostly of those coming from the public school circle.

Carol Vorderman hears from these callers on how they feel about Labour having the most state school-educated ministers in its cabinet.

1:27 - Caller Jawwad hits out at 'out of touch posh boys' in previous governments, and says 'if you're paying thousands of pounds to fill up your swimming pool, of course you don't care if energy bills rise.'

4:55 - Caller Carl disagrees with Jawwad and says it's more about 'advantage' rather than privilege', and then goes on to say that the 'North-South divide is a myth' in his books.

5:15 - Carol Vorderman and Carl have a back and forth, with Carl insisting that those in the North have 'superior income, cheaper housing, less children in classes, better NHS access, and cost of living is much cheaper'.

9:55 - Caller Lorraine, a former head teacher, tells Carol Vorderman: 'I am absolutely delighted the posh boys are out'.

  • Their poshness wasn't a problem to me. It. was their corruption, incompetence, amorality, lies, racism and divisive politics that I am glad to see the back of.
  • @wizzkid3626
Caller one articulated his points brilliantly.. agreed with him 100% great to see the youth engaged
  • @DAG924
Jacob Rees mogg is someone I just can't digest. He was sleeping in parliament with his shoes on the seat. Disrespect old snob!!!
  • That young male caller was so emotively on point about the drop in the ocean that most people feel they are while having to deal with out of touch Tory ministers.
  • @yvonnemason9137
What a joy to listen to the very first caller. He was articulate, eloquent and possessed of an impressive level of understanding, compassion and wisdom for a young man. His parents must be very proud of him!
  • @C4mrin
Caller from the South - "Hey people in the North - you have it so great!" The North of England has been left behind for so long - I say that as someone from Scotland who works across the UK. If I was English I could never understand how anyone could believe the Tories - demand change and demand what you deserve which is a better deal than you are currently getting.
  • @JohnRussell-y3m
After 2019 they thought labour would never defeat them. That sense of absolute power corrupted them . They could now grift with impunity..
  • @Lerie2010able
I didn't look on them as "posh boys" to me they were a bunch of spivs
  • Northerners have more disposable income than southerners? This is NOT TRUE. Costs might be lower, but so are salaries. In the North south "competition" mentioned by the 2nd caller, the north is losing. Unfair especially as it was the north that produced the wealth derived from industrialisation, but they are still suffering due to higher air pollution. Edinburgh is wealthy. It is not Northern England, it is Scotland.
  • Politicians don't become criminals, criminals become politicians
  • @allip4226
Second caller is clueless. Sunak openly admitted he was funneling money away from deprived areas to rich areas like Tunbridge Wells. After 14 years of Tories making the North poorer, on day 3 of a Labour government that might reverse that, we should suddenly "forget this silly North/South divide?" LOL eff off mate, your side lost.
  • That North/South caller is just a lost cause. He's right that the costs of products are cheaper BUT negates that wages are also lower. Those that work in London often get paid more than those that work out of London. Education levels are poorer....just so many arguments you could make against him!
  • @craigdoc6656
People in the north get a lower wage than people in South for doing the same job
  • @musicmikemn
The first caller talking about how people who haven't been through the same problems as average people, let's apply that thinking to Nigel Farage. The privately educated toff who followed in his father's footsteps to become a trader. If you haven't seen it before, go look at images of Dulwich College. I'm amazed by it every time I drive by; the buildings are fantastic. How is it that he is seen as a "man of the people"?
  • @anonitachi7488
To quote George Carlin: "They want people smart enough to work the machines, but not smart enough to ask why". The Tories knew exactly what they were doing with education reform. It wasn't because they were 'out of touch', they need minimum wage, zero hour peasants in the field. It was 100% by design.
  • This first caller was so touching and so right. I wish him all possible success in life, and I am sure he will help others if he can.
  • I think a better title would be arrogant, entitled , greedy party.
