About this video: In this video we go over how to become a professional footballer by going over the pitfalls I fell into that prevented me from maximizing my potential when I was younger!

These pitfalls were all my own doing. Another important lesson when pursuing any big goal is to take 100% responsibility for it. sure, it's easier to assign blame to anyone or anything other than yourself, but it doesn't help you.

The only way you improve, get to a high level, and achieve your goals, is by looking at yourself and saying "I am responsible."

You do that, and things will change. They may be difficult, but they will change.

I go over the main reasons I never became a pro footballer and what you can learn from the mistakes that I made. This is really important if you are actually serious about pursuing professional football or any high level of football. This is advice I wish I had heard when I was around 12-14. • I don't normally comment on videos but this one got to me because I'm a 14 yr old and My goal in life is to make it professional and become the one of the best in the world now you have given me the steps to it and I appreciate you and hope I can make it and if I do you will be the reason. It's unfortunate it was too late for you but youve done something better, you've made young boys who are passionate about the game aware of what exactly they'll have to come across and do to make it pro. Thank you
  • I never thought I am gifted somehow bcoz when I first started playing football I was not good at all IT'S ALL THE HARDWORK THAT PAID OFF✌
  • I loved the fact that you came up with so much honesty in this video❤ You really helped me a lot with all your videos. LOVE ❤

It's never too late. Age is just number. I started playing soccer during my 3rd year in college. And i passed the try out and managed to play in games due to hard work. Hard work is always rewarded. I play midfield by the way and I'm not bragging. I'm not a pro player but I have passion for the game. Thank you Dave for teaching how to play this beautiful sport. You are a pro. :)

"The hard work and the smart work is what is going to get you there." The clarity of your message about personal discipline and the honest, simple, direct example expressed through your personal storytelling is very much appreciated. I showed this video to my kids and we talked about what you said and the choices they make every day. When I asked about an example of a choice they make that does not contribute to them fulfilling their personal goals they both said, "Fortnite." Your message is so true in EVERY aspect of their lives, not just soccer, and I really appreciate you taking the time (and putting in the thought and effort) to share this important message. It reminds me of a line from song Subdivisions by Rush - "Some will sell their dreams for small desires". Unfortunately it is not just "some", it is most. :( Thank you again for consistently providing great soccer (and LIFE) related content on youtube. Your messages are always helpful and you are having a positive impact on a lot of young players.

I am 28 years old, have suffered several knee injuries and yet your videos have inspired me to pursue becoming a better footballer for my local team. I don't need to be fantastic, but to be able to support my team mates and see progress within myself. More importantly I have a 1 year old son who is completely obsessed with football. He does nothing else. You talking about being talented but not knowing about discipline and grit and systematical training really affected me. I will take this in consideration when helping my son if he decides to pursue a football career, or anything else really.
  • one of the reasons why i really love this channel is because how honest and passionate you are to helping kids who want to become a pro player. this video really gave me the confidence that i needed. i cant thank you enough man. god bless you.

  • @AxelAlarcon
I wish I can practice everyday without getting complaints from neighbors 😪
  • I barley comment even though your videos are the most inspirational and helpful on youtube I`m 14 I live in england I play like a number 10 attacking midfielder, my football role model is de bruyne I find it hard to make up for time since I do one of my GCSE`s this year and may other stuff I go training Wednesdays and Sundays, I`m normally on the starting lineup. When I was in grade 7 I coundn`t kick a ball in a striaght line and I struggled people called me sh*t , said stuff like go back and study . I still have weak points like header but I try to reach the ball every time hoping I can improve. you should be given the greatest respect thank you
  • @ryanflores9784
You can always improve because practice makes perfect and I know with hard-work and dedicated you can achieve anything and i like working hard on every aspect of my game

This was a very good video It does take sweat and tears and hardship, absolutely right Sadly we live in a society that's quite spoilt with "unearned" praise... One thing I've tried to do, my son, only U8s (but, the reason I watch these videos, and even became interested in sports at all, etc), is try to keep his ego flat...since he started in the local little kickers program he's had people coming up and telling him how "good" he is (adults, team mates, coaches, coaches from other teams asking him to join their club, even recently some random strangers at last weekends match, etc)...it's hard to correct that. I am stuck trying to remind him, it's because of the hard work he has done...and that if he wants to stay at a "high level", it will take even more of that effort and hard work...that he may be the best in his team, but it's because of the effort he has put in...but I admit, it;s tough to have to pull your child down a bit
  • I've been watching ur vids and I realized that dedication and comitment are very crucial in soccer. I was never "talented" and i have only played soccer for 3 years and sometimes it can be challenging when u have to play againts someone who has played longer then i have... then I have to remind myself that sometimes it doesn't matter how long my oponent has played, but what matters is their skills. I've been working hard and I tell myself that i have to practice and do this and that and ur videos have inspired me so much. Thank you Dave
