Imagine listening to them on radio back in the hills, hollers, and mountains, and flat lands, nearly 100 years ago.......A different time.......America was heading into the electronic age.....yes sir it was! This was as cutting edge as I-Phones and apps are today

I feel sad all these people are no more! I feel like crying listening to their voices... they died before I was even born. Rest in peace legends.
  • This was my Father's Mothers music in southern Missouri back in the 20's and 30's ,,,,,,,,,, it's in my blood heart and soul!
  • Beautiful music. When they say music heals all. This is the music. The Great Carter family

My mother was a huge fan. She had two of their records that we played on the record player on Saturdays. Mom was partially deaf, but she knew so many words to so many songs. Mom had a hard life of illnesses that cought up with her in December. She went into hospice care on December 18. The circle network was on my sister's the where mom was in hospice. And a young performer came on, talking about The Carter Family and there contribution to country music. He talked about his version of Bury Under The Weeping Willow Tree. They played a clip of it and I immediately hated some one messing with my favorite group.....but that night on the way home I have it another shot. The last day I spent with mother, I talked to her about this young musician, and how his remake will make The Carter Family live on. Playing his version brings tears and a smile to my face. His name is Rusten Kelly. I'd love to think momma would have loved his version.

This is my mom and dad's music. My dad was 18, and my mom was 17 in 1927. They have also passed on. I miss them ever since they left me.

  • Such beautiful, timeless music...historic American folk, country music..
  • This music and singing always hurts my soul. I grew up with it. I love to sing and play. It's hard for me to get through the songs when I sing and play. I don't want to be seen crying over these songs.I memorized these songs years ago. I sing them to myself while doing my job. I have a big red bag I call it "my song bag." It's so full of songs like this I weep over, I can't hardly stuff anymore of these songs into the bag anymore. And I shall always sing and pla.

  • Just finished reading "Will You Miss Me When I'm Gone", a history of the Carter Family. An amazing look into a period of history, a way of life, and the story of what they accomplished. I never actually heard any of their recordings, so started looking - so glad I found this.
  • Having discovered the wonderful Carter Family now makes me wonder why I listened to so much rubbish music all my life. Thanx Youtube .
