Swedish Death Cleaning and Organizing for Dying

Published 2024-07-03
If you have sorted through the belongings of a loved one who passed away, first of all, I'm very sorry for your loss. Secondly, you know what an overwhelming task it can be.

But it doesn't have to be that way for your loved ones when you pass away.

Swedish Death Cleaning is a gift you give your loved ones who will sort through your belongings after you die. The idea is... YOU sort through your things BEFORE you die so your loved ones don't experience the same overwhelm. I'll do a video on Swedish Death Cleaning in more detail so watch for that.

The other gift you give your loved ones is ‪@thenokbox‬. As written in their YouTube description...

"A Nokbox is simple: it’s an organizational system that helps your Next of Kin (NOK) avoid a scavenger hunt through your files, phone, home, possessions, computer, and paperwork once you have passed away."

I was surprised how easy it was to set up. They really thought of everything!
As I mentioned, I'm posting an affiliate link to the Nokbox.

Hi friends,
I'm Gwen Rutz, married to my high school sweetheart Troy and we have 2 married sons and 8 grandkids. I love being a wife, mom, and Nina (my grandma name - it's the current thing right?) 😉

This channel is devoted to helping women over 50 reset their lives and find purpose in this amazing season.

I served as Lead Pastor for 12 years before retiring from pastoral ministry. I speak at churches, women's meetings, and outdoor archery events using every opportunity to share the love of Jesus.

Thank you for getting this far in the description! 🙌🏼 I love you for i

Sounds good. My father had an exercise book where he had everything thing listed that we needed to know, including phone numbers to ring to cancel things, etc. It had his plan for his funeral with all details included. He had been a list maker all his life and this book made winding up his affairs so much easier.
  • I have cleared out loved ones items and that alone has made me more diligent in decluttering my own space so others don’t have that struggle.

I had to take care of my mother’s stuff after she passed. Twenty years before she passed she showed me her little strong box and all the papers that were important. She never updated it. Nightmare. She was a hoarder.

Really good video, we all should prepare so we are not a royal pain to our children when we pass. I have not heard of this specifically but will check into it.
  • Clearing out my parents home of 60 yrs took me 2 yrs.after 40 hr weeks at a stressful job plus,2 vacation times(took no vacation for two yrs). EXHAUSTED

I am in my 50’s as well and it’s nice to know that I am not the only person who thinks this way. I have been going through my stuff like crazy because I don’t want my children to have to deal with any of that after I am gone. It hurt me so deeply to go through my parents stuff and they passed away one month apart and to this day I am still struggling with it.
  • I became a Minimalist and put my bank accounts in trust for my son.he can do whatever with my remaining stuff which isn't much.money is best for him

  • Hi Gwen - your channel just popped up. Probably because I love love love decluttering channels. The NOK box looks great. I already have a file cabinet that I have made folders like those. But I like the fact that the NOK has the description papers! I'll have to check that out. So - it's really fire proof? Because it doesn't look like a metal type of box. Fire proof is what I need. Or a safe - hahaha. I have gotten rid of a lot of my possessions. But paper is my nemesis. Ugh. If there is a flat surface.....it just attracts clutter. Happy 4th of July.
  • I’m going to work on this and prepare my NOK box! Great video Gwen❤

I’m in the process of creating “My Death” notebook with all the information of my life- banking, assets, passwords, the will, etc. After dealing with parents deaths and no guidelines from them I swear not to do this to my kids!

Hi Gwen! New subscriber! I found you through Beautiful Life Sage! First, I haven’t even finished your video yet but your personality drew me right from the start! I have experience unfortunately in having to clean out a home and belongings of a loved one. It was my mom and it was extremely difficult. Because of that experience, I’ve been more conscious about what I have or collect so my children will not have to experience this additional type of grief. Awesome topic, difficult but important. Thank you for sharing! Now, I will continue watching 😂
