Steve Earle has lived through the sort of horrors that have launched a million country songs: addiction, affliction, heartbreak, even prison. He wears them in his voice, but what's most appealing about him is the wide-eyed, unmistakable fearlessness with which he goes about his life these days. The singer, author, actor and activist showcases many of his talents at the NPR Music offices.

Set List:
"Waitin' On The Sky"
"Every Part Of Me"
"This City"

Steve Earle is one of the last great American troubadours. Conscience and conviction. No compromise, no excuses. Thanks Steve.
  • Mr. Earle is the perfect example of using what you are given and making something tremendous out of it. He goes to show that you can either let your struggles define you, or you can use them to shape you into something better. Good on ya Mr. Earle :)

Steve's mistakes are just as beautiful as his masterpieces. This man has taught me so much.

Such a pleasure to see him perform "Every Part of Me". To watch one of the legends, the outlaws, just bear his soul....an absolute pleasure

Just saw this genius last Thursday. 30th anniversary of the Copperhead Road album. They played the entire album from beginning to end and then some exit zero and guitar town and more. Glad I was able to see him.

I almost ashamed it's taken me this long to understand Steve Earl's place in music history.
  • I've wanted to be a musician every since I can remember, but Mr. Earle made me want to be a songwriter; I love his music, his voice, and his glasses! haha

I bought steve and dwights first records when they came out back in the 80s. It was important for me to hear new country music from 2 guys that actually knew what the hell it was, is and will always be in it's truest form: honest.

Steve's songs, more often than not, really resonate for me. Nothing boring about them, or him ... but then again, I love to listen and learn; share another human being's perspective and experience. Good storytellers usually have my attention, despite any possible character flaws.
