She deserves to be remembered for her talent not her downfall.

  • WRITING THIS AT 23???????? This is one of the most heartbreakingly beautiful songs ever performed. Love it; always missed

She wasn't crazy or strange, just an aching soul looking for relief. She loved music more than anything, I miss her and her voice. Wish I could've been there to help her ya know...a voice that is in a class of it's own. So young with natural gifts.

Such a gift. A Jewish British girl of Eastern European ancestry who sang like a black woman from the 60s in the mid 2000s .
  • I’m here after seeing the back to black movie. I never really got invested into Amy Winehouse but I’m old enough to remember the media reports that was made about her in the 2007 era. I remember they made it seem like she was just some drug addict who overdosed. Now at 26 researching her I see it was much more to her. She was a broken hearted woman that told her stories thru her music. The drugs/alcohol was gateway but the heart break set the tone. She truly died of a broken heart. Recently I went thru my own personal heartbreak which devastated me and for some reason I started listening to Amy Winehouse back to black album. I believed her music circled around to me at the right time cause her music explained my emotions in song. Especially this song right here. I cried so hard listening to this from a deeper level. Such a shame she passed when and how she did but her legacy stills live on to this day ❤️

I watched the documentary "Amy" for the second time tonight. I'm primarily a rocker, so when she was at her height she was barely on my radar. I was aware of "Rehab" and her bad reputation in the press, but that was it. And like so many, I gave her music a chance only after she died. Immediately I could tell this was something special and I bought "Back to Black". I couldn't believe this was the same person comedians and journalists were painting as some dirty, good for nothing junkie. The sophistication, sensitivity and pain, not to mention her melodic gifts, immediately overwhelmed me. It's easy to romanticize someone after they're gone. Amy wasn't perfect and made some bad decisions, but she was also so authentic and gifted. You get the feeling that she was willing to die for her music. It sounds strange to say this, but I went into a deep depression after absorbing the album. There was a sense of loss, as if I had known her personally. And I did in a way, through the music. She was no longer some disheveled media caricature to me, but a real person with an open and wounded heart. I was going through my own problems with addiction and relationships at the time so the music especially spoke to me. So much so that I can hardly bear to listen to the full record now because it provokes a real sense of grief. I love her almost like I love an ex girlfriend. Maybe more, because she bared it all without holding back. There's no game playing when I hear a song like "Wake up Alone", which is a real heartbreaker. There's no shame in dying, nor failure. Not even dying young. The shame would be if she died broken hearted, and I fear that maybe she did. After Blake and her media crucifixion she seemed broken. And that's just so sad because she was so beautiful and so full of raw, true emotion. She deserved better than a brief, unhappy life. I hope at the end, sitting there watching her videos one last time and having a drink before finally going to sleep, that it dawned on her how much she really accomplished and had to be proud of. Now the tears are ours to cry.

  • My favorite Amy's song, it sounds so much like Motown standards. I could listen to it again and again and never get tired of it
