This is perfection and so beautiful........to me this is the spiritual essence of an early June morning in the English countryside...
  • I love England. I love with all my heart. I never want to leave this beautiful land. I might love it more than my own country. Every year is beautiful, the change of seasons makes me wonder which one I love the most! And this composer makes everything even more beautiful!!!

This was the very first version of Greensleeves I’ve ever known, thanks to my father, when I was a little child...I’m still totally in love with it, definitely the best version
  • I first heard this in a live performance at NYC's Carnegie Hall as a seven year old child, and was so moved that I cried, and could think of nothing else en route home. Sixty six years later, it remains my favorite over any guitar, lute, or vocal version.

Every time I hear Greensleeves it takes me back to 4th-grade choir practice. This and Men of Harlech. Our choir director was Welsh.
  • I've never knew a masterpiece of classical music to be as so enchanting as this to me 😊

I remember singing this at Sound Primary School Cheshire, in the 1950's. More accurately my class sang it and I mimed it. To my everlasting regret I sing as flat as my dining room table. My father had a beautiful tenor voice. Unfortunately, I inherited my voice from my mother. I'm 72 now, a lover of most musical genres but most particularly Classical. Still can't sing and it was and is a blight on an otherwise wonderful life.

I first heard this in HKDSE in Hong Kong as a secondary 3 student, and was so moved that I cried, and could think of nothing else than Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination. 3 years later, it remains my favourite over any vocal version.

This piece of music summed up my whole Dr.Barnados inner emotional childhood growing up in a Grade II listed Mansion in Pype Hayes Park, Birmingham.....it was built in the 1600s by a former Captain of The Kings Calvary....and I remember it having a profound effect upon my whenever I heard it.....somehow it just fitted and added to beautiful melancholy wonderous magical fantasy environment I grew up in......it was only when I was forcibly adopted that I began to realise the World was not just the magical beautiful kind place of my early childhood. It always brings tears to my eyes, but fills me with such a beautiful feeling of wonder, and loss, whenever I hear it.

What could be more English. It evokes winnowing wheat, country lanes, roads bordered in hedges and all is well with the world. I love this beyond words. Pure English genius. Genteel, refined and civilized. Yet still genius.

Thank you, Mr. Britain, for posting this lovely recording. ❤ In all my years, I had only heard - and loved - the score with the Christmas carol. Just last evening, this exact recording was played on a classical music podcast. I wondered why they were playing this carol - albeit so beautiful - at this time, and came here on YouTube to add to my favorites. The comments let on there was more than I realized, leading me to jump over to Wikipedia for the full story. Although ashamed I had never known the details, I’m so happy to have finally learned! This lush pastoral rendition really opens one’s heart and stirs deep emotions. I’ve shed more than a few tears listening to it and am happy to now know I can enjoy it all year round!
