The leaders of South Korea, Japan and China are gathering in Seoul ahead of talks aimed at improving relations. It's the first trilateral meeting between the three neighbors in more than four years - and there's much to discuss - with trade, climate change and disaster response all on the table. However, the official agenda doesn't include discussion around North Korea's nuclear program or China's territorial dispute over Taiwan and the South China Sea.

This is the most myopic DW report ever. Ukraine and Taiwan are not the issue here. It's trade and economic relations. I wish the three countries well in their discussions.
  • @ich1nes
why would three neighbouring nations each with thousands of years of history sit down ONLY talk about what USA with 200 years of history want them to talk about?
  • @Ausf
No point discussing things that will go nowhere. At least talk about things that have the potential for a positive outcome.

It doesn't take a geopolitical expert to understand the following: 1) Discussing Taiwan with China is not how you "improve relations" with China, which is why it is not being discussed at this summit with the goal of improving relations. 2) It's misguided to think that North Korea listens to China, especially on issues regarding its nuclear program, which China agreed with the US/West to sanction during Bush Jr. and Obama. Russia, on the other hand, has supported North Korea's nuclearization, and as such, is arguably closer to North Korea than China.

As long as US not interfering the situation, an agreement shall be reached

I wander what do the DW editors think when they read the comments ? It seems most viewers do not agree with them😅😅😅

What a terrible discussion!!! No wonder DW is clueless.

The last thing US wants to see is peace in East Asia, with China, Korea and Japan working together.
  • @chengavitch10
China considers Taiwan its own territory. Why does DW expect China to seek the opinion of Japan which defeated Qing dynasty China in 1894 and colonized Taiwan for 50 years?
  • @jianyang6281
West: you three must discuss Chinese inner affair during the meeting.
  • @happymelon7129
Fun fact: 😰It was written in U$ Foreign Policy document, to keep Asia poor and divided.

Former U.S. President Carter issued a statement in 1978: "The United States recognizes the government of the People's Republic of China as the only legitimate government of China. There is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is part of China." Major countries should abide by their commitments and respect history and facts.

If those three ones get together like EU, it will be tremendous
  • @yetao5801
Nor does it include discussing American meddling, historical and ongoing, as the sole cause of regional instability.
  • @kaijunjiang9763
They talk about themselves rather than talking about someone else. What's wrong with that?
  • @90taetaeya
West: China, leave Taiwan alone! Also West: France, do what u want with New Caledonia.
