  • Thank you very much for all the notices where the road was and where you were.

Nice work. I did this ride back in Nov, 2017. I think I fell in just about the same place that you did. I was on a road bike with 28 mm tires... not ideal. I was totally alone, which in retrospect, was really stupid. If something bad happened to me, I think it would have been days before anyone found me. I was so happy when I got back onto maintained roads!

We, the Ridge Route Preservation Organization, are working to get this road protected and preserved. Funding would be coming from the USFS, not the State of California, as it hasn't been a State maintained route since 1934. For more information - http://ridgeroute.org .

Shame to see it in this shape. Drove to the Tumble Inn in 2011 in a 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix with no problems. Heavy rain has done a number on the road

More should be done to preserve this historic and remarkable engineering accomplishment. But since the California state government has essentially bankrupted itself, no funding is available.
  • @larrymiller4
Preserving it for at least bicycle and pedestrian traffic would be a worthy use of it.

Thanks for posting this video. I didnโ€™t see in the video but are the USFS gates still up? Is the road actually washed out anywhere or is it more of a mud slide covering the pavement? Saw Swedes cut was pretty rocky in another video...

some of the ridge route is on usfs land and has nothing to do with california. some of it is also behind a locked gate.
  • Get it fixed up, it could be used to drive pre 1930, or brass era automobiles on it. There would have to be a toll to pay for repairs and upkeep.
  • @vtperalez
Did you see any of old hotel remnants?
  • Great ride. What are those black mats along the way? rubber, synthetic, or wood?

  • @DavidLovat
I'm curious as to why you expressed negativity regarding continuing on to Lake Hughes?
  • @apasterizer6614
gas tax keeps going up but guess it goes back the general fund not to fix roads
