Lyrics:

The second someone mentioned you were all alone
I could feel the trouble coursing through your veins
Now I know, It’s got a hold
Just a phone call left unanswered had me sparking up
These cigarettes wont stop me wondering where you are
Don’t let go
Keep a hold

If you look into the distance there’s a house upon the hill
Guiding like a lighthouse
its a place where you’ll be safe to feel our grace
Cause we’ve all made mistakes, if you’ve lost your way

And I will leave a light on
I will leave a light on
I will leave a light on
I will leave a light on

Tell me what’s been happening
What’s been on your mind?
Lately you’ve been searching for a darker place to hide
That’s alright
But if you carry on abusing you’ll be robbed from us
I refuse to lose another friend to drugs
Just come home
Don’t let go

If you look into the distance there’s a house upon the hill
Guiding like a lighthouse
its a place where you’ll be safe to feel our grace
Cause we’ve all made mistakes, If you’ve lost your way

I will leave a light on
I will leave a light on
I will leave a light on
I will leave a light on

If you look into the distance there’s a house upon the hill
Guiding like a lighthouse
It’s a place where you’ll be safe to feel our grace
And if you’ve lost you way, if you’ve lost your way

And I know your down and out now but I need you to be brave
Hiding from the truth ain’t going to make this all okay
I feel your pain; if you don’t feel our grace then you’ve lost your way

And I will leave a light on
I will leave a light on
Cause I will leave a light on

I just got out of prison on Friday, it's now Tues and I start work tonight. I'm 2 years sober and this song has been my anthem my whole term. I will never allow drugs to ruin my life again.

I'll tell you a little miracle 💙 my baby brother died on the 1st April, 💔, and this song is in his Spotify playlist. A week after his passing, my husband and I came home from being out for dinner and we went to turn our garage light off as we were walking inside. The light wouldn't turn off! My husband kept flicking the switch but the light remained on. So my husband took the light bulb out and the light still remained ON! My husband is holding an unscrewed light bulb in his hand and it's lit up, we took a picture of it 🥲 after that happened, I didn't realise until a few days later that this very song, was in my brothers playlist. "I will leave the light on" I truly believe it was him leaving the light on for us and sending signs 💙💙💙

It's so nice how all people from all countries come together here and reading all the comments shows me that we're all the same. No matter how distant, people all over the world are the same. We all have emotions and emphaty.

Tom, when this came out I was homeless, in and out of jail, and unhealthy. Now I have a house, a good job, and a husband. This song and “Clover Cage - The Lone Dancer” are the two songs that helped with my depression. I just want everyone to know things will get better. We are in this together. I love you ❤😊

“Suicide doesn’t stop the pain, It just passes it on to someone else.” That quote couldn't be more true.

My entire family, myself included have suffered from addiction. I have now been 10 years sober and clean. Still this song hits soo dam hard. The artist has to know addiction first hand to have such powerful and moving lyrics mixed with emotion.
  • My mum died in November and I used to play this for her cos she loved it. She’d sing along to the chorus as best she could. Today is first day I’ve been able to listen to this again and I keep thinking how cool my mum was. At 73 years of age she could still spot a quality tune. This song will always have a special place in heart.
  • I know this song is about addiction, but this song got me through some dark times where I was suicidal. I was alone and isolated and had nothing to live for, but then I heard this song, completely by chance. It was just a small bit, but I had to hear it again, and so I looked and looked and then I found it, and I listened to it so many times that I got myself the help I needed, because for the first time in a long while, I felt something other than nothingness. I know you’ll never see this, but thank you for this song. For saving me and helping me through my darkest time.
  • This songs make me think of my kids... they still very young but I'm just super worried about there future... God protect them more then me... May God protect you and your family aswell ❤

My cousin comitted suicide He left notes and diaries from which we gathered he was convinced he was a waste of space, that he didn't matter, that he wouldn't be missed... If you're reading this, and are looking for a sign to not end it, this is it Because believe me, you will be missed

This song moves me to tears. My mother had several strokes before Thanksgiving this year due to afibrilation (irregular heartbeat). Drugs were never an issue for/with my mom, but I can't help but feel like she’s lost right now…and I will ALWAYS leave the light on for my mother.
