What Makes A Youtube Thumbnail Clickable?

The most important thing you have to think about is your audience, or if you don’t have an audience yet, your key demographic and what is going to make them click on your thumbnail.

What intent do they have, and what can you do to match that intent and get the click.

First let’s ask the most important question, Who is your key demographic? What does your Key Demographic want? And How can you appeal to them as a creator? This is how you create Youtube thumbnails to get more views!

My actionable tip here is that you need to think about your key demographic and audience, then make a thumbnail that appeals to them, not just looks beautiful, most of my thumbnails from a graphic design standpoint kinda aren't great but they appeal to their audience so they do well.

How to Make a Thumbnail for YouTube Videos?

YouTube thumbnails are an incredibly important element of your video optimization. One of the most important aspects to getting a Youtube video to rank in search or be suggested in the algorithm is your CTR or Click-through rate, this means you need an amazing thumbnail to make people click your videos!

When it comes to making a good Youtube Thumbnail, it is important to remember to keep it simple, and that means it is so important to simplify them down as much as possible.

My three major rules of a good simple thumbnail.

1. A clear simple background
2. Only 3 major elements, such as Face, Visuals, and text.
3. Remove any visuals that don’t help tell the story of the video

Don't forget that Youtube Thumbnails end up much smaller when uploaded, so the larger and simpler you can make your Thumbnails the better they'll perform meaning a higher Click-through rate and more views in general.

The style of this video is similar to Alpha Gaming and Gaming Careers in parts. A large influence on this series has come from content creators like Justin Brown - Primal Videos and Vanessa Lau.

Hey Gang! I hope seeing my thought process while time restricted was helpful! The takeaway really should be: Idea is everything. How can you make a simple, relatable, but most importantly interesting thumbnail for your viewers? If I had more time or was doing this for my own channel, I'd likely have spent about 2-3 hours on each thumbnail but figured this was a better format. Have a great day! 🕘Timestamps: 0:00 What Stops New YouTubers Getting Views 0:36 Fixing My Viewers Battle Royal YouTube Thumbnail 1:39 How To Make An Unknown Niche Topic Clickable For Views 4:00 Final Results For Thumbnail One 4:42 Fixing My Viewers Podcast YouTube Thumbnail 5:55 Why You Should NEVER Include Episode Numbers In Thumbnails 6:30 How To Simplify Your Thumbnails To Get Views 8:23 Final Results For Thumbnail Two 9:05 Why Your Ideas Are Holding You Back 10:13 Fixing My Viewers Pokemon YouTube Thumbnail 10:30 How To Make An Idea That's Been Done Before Clickable 12:35 Final Results For Thumbnail Three 13:14 Fixing My Viewers Speedrunning YouTube Thumbnail 13:34 How To Steal Thumbnail Ideas To Grow 14:47 Fixing My Viewers YouTube Shorts Thumbnail 15:24 Why Overcomplicated Your Thumbnails Is Awful 15:57 How To Tell A Story With A YouTube Thumbnai

Love all of your educational work. They always remind me to keep working on my work even when I think they're finished. I'll be crafting titles and thumbnail concepts from now on because of this. Thank you Eljay

Sorry if I missed it in the video, but what are you using to cut out your images. so you find an image of chimchar online, then its cut out perfect in the editor. Is this a program, or are you trimming them manually?
  • Amazing video! Really liked the first thumbnail, imma try to recreate that somehow, I have a plan
  • @kingjaries
Since starting uploading again I wonder if these changes are something I'm also missing. Ill give it a try thanks!

  • @Pococat
I was watching all your videos about Twitch and I was having trouble choosing what to highlight on twitch. I'm not sure where to start. I stream 3 times a week 4hours each time and it would be super difficult to actually watch the entire VOD. Do you end up just skimming through it or do you have a way to flag what you care about while streaming?
  • @DBGd
do you recommend the blue yeti mic?
  • @Chachachevix
Do you have any tips or maybe a video coming up sooner or later about thumbnails for livestreams? I've noticed when I put some effort into the thumbnail for my livestreams I get some clicks but I'm not sure if the game tips apply or if there are some different strategies to get peoples attention.
  • @chrusher1988
