Pete Rose, also known as "Charlie Hustle," is one of Major League Baseball's most iconic and controversial figures. With a career spanning from 1963 to 1986, Rose became the all-time hits leader and a 17-time All-Star, renowned for his relentless play and competitive spirit. However, his illustrious career was marred by a major scandal that would overshadow his achievements. Accused of betting on baseball games, including those involving his own team, Rose was handed a lifetime ban from baseball in 1989. This introduction delves into the life and career of Pete Rose, exploring how his legacy became intertwined with controversy.

Pete Rose's journey to baseball stardom began in 1963 when he debuted with the Cincinnati Reds. Known for his relentless hustle and versatility, Rose quickly established himself as a key player. By 1965, he earned the National League Rookie of the Year award, showcasing his talent and work ethic. Over the next decade, Rose's consistent performance and leadership on the field made him a fan favorite. He led the league in hits, won multiple Gold Gloves, and was a crucial part of the Reds' "Big Red Machine" dynasty, which dominated the 1970s, securing World Series titles in 1975 and 1976.

  • Rose was banned for gambling, now the gambling companies are the primary sponsors of sports. Wonder if any games are rigged?
  • If baseball deems this so unacceptable why do they have sports books in their stadiums. Why is it ok for the owners?
  • Well to bad he didn't have a translator like Ohtani. He belongs in the Hall with an asterik. He was the greatest of my life time. So many lazy players now could learn lots from his example.
  • About 8 years ago I happened to see Pete Rose sitting inside a sporting store in the Caesar Plalace casino , Las Vegas . He was sitting at the desk with pen in hand. I assume he had a small gig there to make some money signing memorabilia. There was no one there.😢

Rose is an interesting character study in self destructive behavior. A funny, charismatic personality whose baseball stats are unquestionable, he has continually gotten in his own way. If Shoeless Joe Jackson has never been reinstated, Rose should never be unfortunately.

Pete Rose was one of the greatest players of my life as a baseball fan. It was so much fun to see his patented head-first slide, and you often wondered just when is this guy going to knock himself out (but he never did).

Given his admitted gambling on games and the allegations of sexual misconduct with a minor, I think a lifetime ban is appropriate. After he passes away I think he should be admitted to the HOF when he can no longer bask in the glory of being named.
  • The rules wre clear Players and managers cant bet on baseball.
  • Nice video, but very misleading headline. Video says nothing about how Pete lives today. Headline implies he is perhaps depressed and living in poverty. Actually, he may be coping well. Sure, he has regrets, but he has moved on...like many people.

If only he had an interpreter 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
  • Too bad he doesn’t get the same treatment as Ohtani…Pete should’ve paid his interpreter off…or forgot how to speak English…Respect…
  • No one got banned from the Astro’s in 2017 with the camera scandal and giving away the signs the batting coach was primarily responsible for that scheme and the top echelon of the team.! I personally think that was worse 🧐😢.!
  • "All I know is this HOF thing is costing me alot of dough" - Pete Rose

When there is Betting going on there is Rigging going on!!
  • Pete Rose set records without drugs and is getting shit on. MLB should be ashamed. He was a wonderful role model for many of us growing up. If he wasn't betting against his team and fixing the game I don't see a problem.
  • Pete Rose never gambled for his team to lose, always gambled for the team to win...go figure how terrible a crime that is.

I say, Put Pete Rose in the Hall of Fame where he belongs while he can still see it! Hasn't enough been done to that man? One of the best baseball players ever! Look at all the other crap that has gone on in Professional sports and people turn their heads to it! Come on!!!!!!
  • Pete Rose is the hall of fame. His stats don't lie . 100 years from now Pete Rose stats will still be the Hall of Fame.
