I am pleased to introduce Aaron Turner to the RCA audience. Aaron is a highly experienced and well qualified strength and conditioning coach who works with the Pro Racing Sunshine Coast team. In this video Aaron will provide an overview of the three most common mistakes cyclists make in the gym / off bike strength training. He will then segue into discussing the recovery for sprint and more aerobically gifted cyclists.

I started "for real" lifting a couple of years ago, and the main thing is to make sure you're doing it right. Bad form makes lifting terrible. It's like when we tell people to get a bike fit before riding, same thing for lifting. And you'd be surprised how much you need to learn to do basic lifts. Great video and message. Basics first.

cats come to mind - can jump super high relative to their height (explosive power,) and then sleep for 19 hours.
  • This is a great educational video. I absolutely enjoyed it. Would be amazing if you could make a video of top 3-5 exercises every cyclist should incorporate into thier routine
  • Wow, I am so looking forward to more of this. Aaron is just as eloquent as Neill and a great addition to your team. The guest appearance of your dog made it even more relatable. Looked like (s)he? did a proper inspection on the SEKA drive train?! 😉 Keep it coming, Cam 😃

A really good piece is this, recovery takes longer as you get older as well.

Some helpful tips here, I’m about to start introducing some weight training into my routine. I’m planning on starting it with my physio so they can see my movement and work on getting the technique right. Not planning on clean and jerk straight away 😂

Really interesting. Started gym work this year for the first time after a knee injury (not cycling related) and kept at it, to my surprise I've genuinely started to enjoy it as part of my training now, as Aaron says that makes a big difference to being consistent!
  • @global_nomad.
thanks for sharing this very interesting research...as someone who is an endurance focused rider and finally deciding the time is right for more strength work (about 30 years too late..🙄) this is good to know.

Thanks Cam, and thanks Aaron Sleep is also critical for all active folks 👍

I think starting at a light weight on whatever exercise is the key to not getting hurt with instruction.
  • How do you do weighted squats without hurting yourself? I can do thousands of one leg squats calisthenics style.
  • @vvandu
4:30 you should teach that guy how to squat properly
