Discover the captivating journey of Neville Southall, from personal struggles and transformations to becoming one of football's most revered goalkeepers. Now his Daughter breaks silence on the problems she faced with her father.

Neville Southall's journey to becoming one of football's most celebrated goalkeepers is a tale of humble beginnings and unwavering perseverance. Born in the seaside town of Llandudno, Wales, Southall's early life was far removed from the glamour of professional football. Growing up in a working-class family, he was the middle child among three boys, sharing his childhood with siblings in a household anchored by parents Fred and Rose.

From a young age, Southall's passion for football was evident. He played for his school team and the Llandudno Swifts, where he honed his skills in goal, often alongside future Welsh international Joey Jones. Despite the team's struggles and frequent defeats, these challenging circumstances became the unlikely forge for Southall's shot-stopping abilities, crafting his resilience and determination.

Remember southalls man of the match performance against the upcoming Dutch team containing Gullit Van Basten Rijkaard. Gullit scored but remember Gullit reconising Southalls performance labelling him rightfully so as world class

As a young lad from Belfast i will never forget Norman Whiteside curling the ball around him in the dying moments of that FA Cup final, it was a magnificent goal and it took that to beat a magnificent keeper.

I saw him play for Torquay away at Plymouth, it was like forwards against defence ......attack after attack - Big Nev saved everything. The match finished 0-0. A REAL man of the match performance.

I say this as a Liverpool fan, Big Nev is one of the best goalkeepers I've ever seen. Liverpool would have won even more in his era if he hadn't been Everton's keeper. There's not many outfield players you can say that about, never mind goalkeepers. He was like a wall at times.

Still one of the greatest I have ever seen. For a period in the 80s, he was absolutely ridiculous.
  • Saw him play during the zenith of his powers, a TRUELY WORLD CLASS keeper he really was!
