hello hello, and happy 2021!!!! i wish you all an amazing wonderful fantabulous new year. honestly i can't see it going anywhere but up from here... although let's not tempt fate. :')

today's video is about my advice for beginner and advanced bullet journalers alike. i'm also flipping through my 5 years of bullet journals while i chat! i think you'd like this video if you want to learn more about this planning and organization system, my experiences with it as a high school & college student, and why... i'm quitting. (at least for now.) it's a bit scary for me to say that out loud... but i'm hoping for the best as i branch out and try new planning tools. of course i'll be sharing everything i learn with y'all here :)

  • I've migrated my so called "bullet journal" into this crazy spread of personal diary, todo lists, art journal, and brain dump that I love updating everyday. Don't let the norms of what an art/hobby is ever dictate what you want to do!!!

Guys, there is no shame in going to Target and buying a premade planner... I think
  • @euphoricdiaster
“Stationery and nice pens are not collectables” WHEW a word lol! Definitely need to remember that.
  • @piagebot2943
THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH USING A PRE MADE PLANNER!!! Anyone can use a planner that has all those boxes and lines and pictures, but you can add things like washi tape, stickers, post its, and drawings of your own where you see fit! That’s what I’ve been doing this school year. I like the hybrid notebook setup you included at the end of the video too! Can’t wait to see what you have for the future!!

i've always loved your honesty abt what works for you and what doesn't & i'm glad that you're choosing smth that's best for you! the part where you talked about bullet journaling being "performative" really resonated w me, and i hope that you find a planning method that works the best for you! wishing u all the best 💕💕💕

When I read The Bullet Journal Method by Ryder Caroll, I was really inspired by how simple the system is. Sadly, most of the bujo spreads I see online are more decorative than functional. I have yet to find an account that does a simple bullet journal like the author. Update: I am now bullet journaling for 2022 and keeping it minimal ❤️
  • Studyquill: Jan 2020 2021 Yes we've all been there. I literally wrote Jan 04 2020 in like 5 of my papers...
  • @cravein2862
i always used to get annoyed at myself for not getting into bullet journaling because it was shown to be so amazing but it’s okay to just accept that some things just aren’t for you
  • @02570jorge
12:44 is where she explains why she decided to quit Bullet Journaling...
  • @GabrielaCambuhy
I've also been bullet journaling since 2016, last year I quitted, too much perfection required. This year I finally realized that f* perfection, so now I use the original bujo method, as simple as possible, only 2 pens (1 black, 1 red), no spreads, not even a weekly spread, I just plan it day by day, and it's been really helpful for me
  • @juliacb4339
honestly the principal reason that ppl fail at bullet journal is because they want it to be ✨pretty✨, when the original bullet journal has nothing of that, if you want your notebook to look pretty, you better get yourself an art journal
  • @SamElle
what ive learned from 5 years of attempting to journal, I have to save myself the money and stop buying new journals if only keep up journaling for a couple days each year LOL
  • I appreciate how you showed the blank, imperfect, or incomplete pages in your journals. It’s important to show the reality of improvement to give others a realistic guide to follow
  • @emmakay4248
Things Pinterest tells you are essential to bullet journaling: the nicest journal on the market, all the pens, all the mildliners, all the tombows, all the washi tape, all the stickers Things I actually use regularly when bullet journaling: decent dot grid journal, pencil, thin black pen, thick black pen, ruler😂😂
  • It’s ok Jasmine. I once tried bullet journal for about a year and I find that it didn’t work for me that much and so I changed my planning method. Go do what you find most comfortable for you because that’s all that matters. I will always be rooting for you Jasmine!
  • @Ink2Screen
Re: Bookmarks are honestly the most underrated feature of any planner. I added more bookmarks to my planner setup and it makes such a difference as to how often I now open my planner to track habits and my todo lists, aka it actually makes my planner functional instead of just an afterthought~.
  • @hannahpanda365
for y’all who still want a variety of stationary, i HIGHLY recommend asking for them on your birthday/winter holiday (christmas, hanukkah, etc.) your wallet will thank you and you get a lot of use from the gift!
  • @lee-ridgeway
On the contrary, I am coming back to bujo. I did quit it in 2020 since I wanted to try some Japanese planner. Since WFH, everything became a blur without a space to spill my mind and track my habits, which I usually make for a bujo. But hey do what works for you. The butterfly may come back later.

I’ve only bullet journaled for a year but this year I’ve decided to use my billet journal as a sketchbook and a regular journal ( writing about my day feelings etc.) pretty much just a dump zone for fun 😭
