  • M.I.A. Is like the björk of rap... every song is unique and so different from the other

The fact that she said the Drake line in 2014 is actually pretty impressive. That was years before people started calling him out as a culture vulture.

I've been a fan since 2006, and have witnessed the blossoming of an amazing, courageous artist/activist. I don't think most of you understand how many barriers this person has broken. It is astonishing to think that MIA, a poc from a former anglo-imperial colony torn by civil war, currently releasing art involving "hindu" religion and culture, and just rocking it, ya know...

Guys... MATANGI is her given name, not some demon she's imitating on her cover. She spells it Mathangi, but the "th" is just pronounced like a t.

This song is just so tamil! I approve :) It's cool how MIA manages to take the sound of traditional tamil music/culture and create modern music out of it. I've always wanted to see her throw in a couple sentences of her speaking Tamil in one of her songs though.

Such a powerful woman “ they got guns but they point the wrong way “ Oh to be a woman 😊
  • @industrialcrush
I can really sense that this song is about being a somewhat confused international individual.  I share roughly the same situation (just like MIA, I'm a South Asian Tamil born and living in an English speaking country).  I can see why she named the song 'Matangi', as that's her real first name, even though she usually goes by the more pronounceable 'Maya'.

The whole album is so underrated. It's one of her absolute best ones!
