We are Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that during a sabbatical trip in 2016 decided to follow our dream. So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons.
The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). On the season 4 we sailed for 2 years (exploring the Brazilian coast and part of the Caribbean), we sold our boat and we moved to Europe. The last season we are starting to build a new aluminum 43ft sailboat and a new life.

We hope to inspire others to follow their dreams.

  • Great to be able to see step by step of your own boat built. Congratulations
  • @simsjef
I so appreciated your buildout explanation and I now see advantages to an aluminum buildout as the strength of the boat will be incredible. It’s amazing to see the workers do their thing.

Love this channel, you have come a long way together and preparing for a new life as parents, new van and boat as welll. Love your craftmanship too.
  • @Merlin997
I build my van over the past 2 years, but one day it will be a boat! Thanks for inspiring me (even when things get ((really)) though) ❤
  • @Cptnbond
What an excellent explanation of the build process. Cheers.
  • Felicidades por los avances del barco, que alegría verlo ya nacer , por fin, gracias por compartirlo, saludos desde Malaga ESPAÑA

This is the level of ownership that we should accomplish!
  • Duca - excellent presentation of how the shape of the bottom plates are affected by welding. And the aluminum plates are about 1/2" thick compared to the thickness of the paper being, well, paper thin. Being able to actually see rather than to try to form a mental picture of the process - just another "Duca Talk" presentation, giving competition to the "Ted Talk" as award winner of the Month. And now I have seen three different methods of building an aluminum boat, Odd Life Crafting, Distant Shores, and Sailing Into Freedom. :¬) Webhead USA

Duca, excellent presentation, it is hard to visualize while fabrication is taking place, with your paper explanation it was quite simple… Thanks, John, Ontario, Canada
  • @jbcloud3910
You should save those tiny scrap pieces. I would buy one to have a piece of the new odd
  • I love you guys I wish your video was a little longer or more times a week one 14 minute video isn't enough
  • @justlittlebe
    Fantastic! Congratulations 👏👏👏👏👏💯🇧🇷🇮🇹

Love you guys! Roberta, you look so beautiful & healthy in this Vlog. Be well. ❤
  • I love to see Roberta’s belly growing! Quick question any may be dumb question but anyway. Do you guys know how heavy will be the hull itself once they finish it?
  • You should have her around loud noises while the baby is in the belly! It's good for the baby to be used to loud stuff so when the baby is born nothing bothers it and it won't scream or cry. Alos sleep all night and you can do whatever you want to in the house or wherever your at. We went boating, side by side riding ,worked on the house while my old lady was pregnant. Next day we got home from hospital we worked on the back patio cutting wood , building a deck and my son didn't give a crap, slept right through it! Heck my sold lady was running a straw blowing machine 8 months pregnant while we redid the yard. Get your old lady busting her butt the baby will be just fine
