Lake Mead is experiencing heavy drought from over usage and climate change which is impacting the Colorado River. 80% of the Never Summer snow melt goes to the Western slope but 80% of the Colorado population lives on the Eastern slope. In this video we visit the Continental Divide and the birthplace of the Colorado River and the water collection and diversion system called the Grand Ditch which diverts snow melt water from the Never Summer Mountains to the Eastern slope.

Hey brother' thank you this very informative report.... So are you basically saying that this Diversion system at the Continental divide is one of the man factors for the Colorado river providing LESS water to Powell and Mead? I report on the water drought in Las Vegas and EVERYONE is saying the low Colorado water levels is due to CLIMATE change anf over use.. What are your thoughts - Joey
  • After watching Vegas Dtech I watched your programme, thankyou. Then found Joey from Dtech had commented, its a small world
  • I've lived in Colorado for fifty three years (I'm 73). My brother in law is third generation Colorado. I grew up in Toledo at the edge of Lake Erie. I never heard of the crazy water rights in Colorado. I was going to buy some land (my brother in law's family owned a ranch/farm in Avondale. I told him how cheap the land was and he smiled, "that can't include the water rights". He went on to explain that every drop of moisture in Colorado is owned by someone. If you collect rain, your stealing, even on your own land. The land I wanted because, it had no water rights attached was worthless. My brother in law said if you want to start a fight, start talking water rights. If you want to start a war start talking water rights with a western sloper. 🤣

One of the BEST citizen reporting I’ve seen. Excellent.

just LV D-Tech & thank you for investigative work. Much appreciated
  • There is an informative museum about the Big Thompson Project in downtown Loveland. Without this wise use of water northern Colorado would be a desert and millions would suffer without the food that is produced there.

Enjoyed the video and was able to follow along on Google Maps, your little girl tagging along with dad stole the show... One has to appreciate all the surveying and effort that went into planning these systems "back in the day".
  • @mtlsoul
    interesting for sure. thanks. :)
  • 1 of those tunnels is the alva b. adams tunnel that takes Colorado river water from the west over to the Eastern side of the continental divide. This guy knows what I'm talking about.

25 years ago my grandmother told me, “It’s not a shortage of water, it’s an overage of people.”
  • @darrenn141
Having a grand ditch was no big deal when we had lots of water.
