What is Buerger's Disease?
Buerger's disease is a rare disease of the arteries and veins in the arms and legs. In Buerger's disease — also called thromboangiitis obliterans — your blood vessels become inflamed, swell and can become blocked with blood clots
Doctors aren’t sure exactly what causes this condition. Your genes might play a role. Some people may just be more likely to get it.
Some experts think that certain chemicals in tobacco might irritate your blood vessels, and that’s what makes them swell. Others think tobacco triggers your immune system to attack your blood vessels like they’re bad germs.
There’s no cure for Buerger’s disease. The only thing a person can do to effectively slow the disease is to quit using tobacco. Other treatments may help boost blood flow and ease pain, including:

Medications such as vasodilators to widen your blood vessels or others to dissolve clots
Walking exercises
Intermittent compression of your arms and legs
Surgery to cut nerves to an affected area (sympathectomy)
Your doctor might need to cut off part or all of an area with infection or gangrene (amputation).

Researchers are also studying other treatments. Proteins called growth factors might speed healing and ease pain. Injections of stem cells, which can grow into other kinds of cells, may help your body make new blood vessels.

I have buergers disease. I was diagnosed back in 1998. The pain is unbelievable i mean it is absolutely crippling on some days cold days and overcast just kill me. I had part of my left foot amputated. I was diagnosed very young at the age of 28. My real life ended at 28 existence began. At 28 I had just made chef and life looked well good and in one day it all changed I got a sore on my left foot while at work I thoght maybe a spider bite me and the next day began 3 long years of them just trying to figure out what was wrong with me. I found a great doctor that diagnosed me in minutes at USC in California dont go to UCLA those bastards wanted to amputate both of my legs with out even diagnosing me . But USC has a great Vascular Science team. Saved my leg lost part of my foot but limb salvage is possible if nicotine use is stopped . I also had experimental bypass i believe saved my leg but life sucks the pain is crippling , having a career and losing it SSi doesnt pay shit and work is impossible , when one gets sick at 28 , i mean my life career was just starting the 834 a month well like I said existing. So for over 20 years I have had this god awful disease Its like my life is on pause while i watch Friends and Family buy homes , new cars, just go out enjoy a walk , vacations , things that 834 a month isnt going to get. Shit usually make messed up comments this is a story LOL not a comment.
