Winchester Deer Season XP 308 Ballistics Gel Test šŸ’„ 100 Yards

Published 2023-03-17
Can budget 308 deer ammo run with the big boys? Winchester Deer Season XP 150-grain is available at my local WalMart, and it's perfectly capable of causing catastrophic organ rearrangement. In this 20% ballistics gel test at 100 yards, the polymer-tipped projectile managed to carve a 13-inch-long permanent cavity that maxed out at 1-3/4" wide. Come see for yourself.

  • Sound off! If you've used Deer Season XP ammo in any caliber, how has it performed for you in the field?
  • @antinormality
Very cool! Itā€™s really helpful to know what we can expect and not expect from the budget friendly options. Thanks Kyle!

Can't wait, I'm testing ammo for my 308 a10 as well. It's nice to see comparisons for commonly available products instead of just the high end stuff.
  • I have used the .350 Legend Winchester 145 grain FMJ Flat point target load and it worked well on hogs dropping the hog in its tracks .I like these .308 150 grain deer season xp.

Deer Season XP is one of my favorites. I use the .223 64 grain for varmints and coyotes, 350 Legend 150 grain for hogs. Both have been very effective. I don't use them in 450 Bushmaster as they are so expensive, I use the Hornady Black 250 grain. Luckily I saw your videos on the Winchester ammo for 350 Legend and bought hundreds and hundreds of rounds when they were 19 bucks and change a box.

The slow motion section sounds very similar to watching a Space-X rocket launch!! Good stuff man!!

Enjoying all your content. In my old age Iā€™ve and location Iā€™ve been turning to Varmint hunting. Canā€™t hunt deer bottle neck rounds . Deer season is mostly bow.

This is a good test because both my local Walmarts sell this ammo.
  • @duane.pearce
I shoot those in several calibers and they're sub moa in all calibers with different brand rifles. It's absolutely plants deer on impact.
  • @BCBtrucks64
nice clear video all the way , i'm learning bags are the way to go for bench shooting as apposed to bipods but i noticed a lot of muzzle jump out of the .308 but it didnt affect point of impact ' i was surprised by that .
  • I used it this year in my 6.5 Killed a buck and a doe no problem
  • @dannys4253
I stopped using these after one hunt. .270 Winchester the jacket shredded and the bullet fragmented ruined excess meat. With that said they shot 1 moa, but Iā€™ve switched to bonded bullets.
  • Love the extreme point bullets from winchester and browning. (Yes I know winchester loads brownings ammo) The only way I have gotten better performance from a bullet is making the leap to using ELD Match and A tip bullets. After using both of those last season, im not going back to ā€œhuntingā€ ammo again.
  • My mate runs them in his 7mm 08. Does a good job on Red deer within 300 yards with a hit in the beard basket. However 50% of the time there is no exit hole. It can make for hard tracking without a blood trail. However the animal never makes it far from the point of impact.
  • Looks sufficient for varmints and the small Texas deer around me. Picked a box or two of it up in 243 when it was unobtainium. Still had some Hornady 100 grain btsp's which did great but also fragmented inside the deer, still had a pass through with the core though. Winchester really should've put a cannelure to help keep the core from separating.
