Sound-Hole Cover Or Trivet?

My guess would have been to make the guitar more quiet for practice without disturbing anyone.. like a late night practice session tool or something.. but what do I know. I never would have guessed for recording. Anyway.. rock and roll 🤘

I think some people use them to eliminate the loud, resonance to play, and practice quietly.

I have one. Yes, it was recommended to eliminate feedback on an acoustic electric. Honestly, I can’t remember if it made any difference:)

Yes I used it to record. Sometimes all you want is kind of a bright, rhythm guitar tone. If you notice, In a lot of recordings the guitar is kind of used just with a lot of the bass cut out. Because it overlaps with the bass guitar other instruments and when they play the same note it gets too loud and is overwhelming. If you look up how to mix acoustic guitars they always tell you to cut the bass. But of course this is not meant for music that features the acoustic guitar, like bluegrass or Leo Kottke or something.

I have one, I knew what it was and what it was for, but have never used it. It came with my Yahmaha acoustic guitar. It would also make a great coaster for your cold beverage of choice.

If you use an acoustic/electric, live on stage at volume, it’s supposed to mitigate the feedback from the amplifier. I don’t think it’s necessary for recording.

I have no idea what its used for, and actually never saw one. Never had one on any acoustics I have owned, including Taylor, Martin, Ibanez, Yamaha, and Epiphone. So yeah, I would have thought the same you, shipping protection. The more you know!

Sound hole covers were a necessity for Live performance in the days before notch filters became available_ notch filters cancel the frequency that feeds back allowing Much louder stage volume _ 😊
