One Shot More Folks Should Add to Their Disc Golf Bag!! | Beginner Disc Golf Tips

Published 2024-06-06
Have you ever played a round of disc golf with someone and they pulled a shot out that you never thought possible? How about a moment where someone landed in a spot so bad on the course you KNEW you were going to pick up a stroke on them? Yet they somehow were able to move past that terrible lie, and end up parking the basket? In today's video I want to talk about Flip up forehands and what discs you can use to accomplish this shot. This is a shot that I lean on in my scramble game, and I love watching folks learn and utilize this shot to save themselves out on the course. So how does this miraculous shot work?? You’ll have to watch to find out!!

A couple points I would like to add. Learning this skill will prevent injuries in the long run as well. I learned the hard way and tore my labrum from "Yamming" too many high speed, overstable forehands on anyhyzer over the years. I had to step back and relearn forehands again. Now, I play rounds and never even throw a backhand. i have found that i can throw backhand lines with forehands in most situations. I think this should be the starting point for learning forehands. i would even say to learn forehanding putters first. you can throw them harder than you think, its all in the wrist baby. Putters can be thrown as hard as you please as long as the launch angle is high enough. The shot that took my forehand to the next level was learning to flip up a stable putter, thrown on hyzer, to go dead straight and sometimes even hyzer out. From there you can manipulate the speed and angle to throw basically any line with just a putter. I have learned to lean on the glide of a disc rather than the stability of a disc. Learning how to get every last foot of glide out of a putter or understable to stable mid will take your forehand to the next level. The height/ launch angle is just as important as the hyzer/anhyzer angle.

"The easiest way to create distance is to throw a disc that wants to fly a certain way and throw it in a manner that pushes it quite the opposite." One year into playing, and I love hearing this put so simply... wish I'd heard it put that way when I was starting out. Great beginner tip, thanks Robbie 🙌

The feeling of excitement you get when robbie says your name in the intro lol

Good stuff Robbie... we hit on the breaking point of the disc on the same day! :D And, I immediately puaed the video to double check the shirt! Very nice!

So true. Learned forehand first, got to 300ft standstill in a couple of weeks. Now it's very very hard to force myself to throw backhands.
  • @Ishiisan
I've recently started practicing forehand with Innova Rat, Pig, Rollo, and Remix Disc Creature to be able to learn to shot shape 😁

I'm so glad you referenced my awkward Fuse throw. I was in a bad spot at Trace a month later and pulled out the Fuse for a FH that wasn't THAT type of shot, but it was a turnover FH which is exactly the only shot I could have made work from where I was. Anyone who knows me will tell you my FH is TRASH. This is an excellent shot to add to your tool belt!

Loved the video. Great info., really relatable to me and my forehand.
  • @Brother_In_Arms
I pulled out a forehand paradox at my local dubs and blew minds 😂
  • @dblevins343
I was excited to try the tremor. I personally just don't like it. Maybe I've been throwing the Paradox and Uplink for too long. But I definitely prefer both of those. With that said, the DGA Vortex is a beautiful undertable fairway.

Not a mid, but my crave and Inertia are my favorite forehand discs. Both are awesome for straight or turnover shots when scrambling.
  • @ericsherman4844
I primarily throw forehand and I can on average go about 350ft and if I really push I can get it out to around 400ft. I primarily through "Flippy" discs the innova mystere the clash discs wild honey and they go straight for 3/4 of there flight then slowly dump right. I love Flippy discs I don't see the need to yam on over stable discs when I can get the same distance with less effort.thanks for the video!
  • @freestylfilms
i have it but i use it less at rollers and more for extreme forehand turn shots from scramble
  • @AWFphoto
I’m having a great one. Thanks for asking!
