Morgoth Bauglir, the Dark Enemy of the World. Being the most powerful of the Ainur, Morgoth had powers that surpassed many of his peers combined. Desiring the ultimate destruction of everything and everyone, Morgoth squandered his evil into the world itself. It’s common knowledge that his servant Sauron forged the One Ring, but few knew that Morgoth had his own ring of sorts. What was Morgoth’s Ring? How powerful was it? How did it affect Elves and Men? And why was Morgoth destroyed even though his Ring survived? This is the history and explanation of Morgoth’s Ring.

  • It was about time I covered something from the First Age! Btw, if you enjoyed this video consider checking out what would have happened if Sauron reclaimed the One Ring: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8pQG0BsYTs Thanks to Teleperónwë MC, TheCapitaineMax, Domenic Minniti, John Smith, Forrest Johnson, Lucas Devick, Paradox, Observer, Otto Sol, Samuel-A001 and Gabriel Yalap for their support! 10:28 Melkor was not killed after the War of Wrath. He was expelled from Middle-earth, banished beyond the Circles of the World. But he did not go to the place where Men's souls went after death. The Valar set a guard forever upon the walls at the Doors of Night, and one of Earendil's tasks is to guard those walls should Morgoth attempt to return.

A fascinating subject to be sure... Knowing Tolkien went through both World Wars, it's chilling to read how he develops the desire of domination, lust for power, and how it inevitably leads to despair and "the iron crown of Evil". Great video! :)

A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one
  • @petehaines
This is a fantastic take on morgoths ring and how morgoth and sauron distributed their power.
  • @GirlNextGondor
The concept of Morgoth's power permeating Arda is so useful in understanding Middle-earth but I so rarely hear it discussed or explained; this is a great video!
  • I think the "unnamed beings" have been created by Melkor corrupt singing, and he kept going on created horrors and monsters, losing power in the same time, to end like a "pale" shadow of himself at the end....
  • @nisselarson3227
I love this take on the creation mythos. It sounds like Eru and the Ainur were singing Gospel but Melkor was into Jazz. :-)

What was Morgoth's Ring? Underrated to say the least, especially when compared to Sauron's Ruling Ring.
  • @ruffbeard3634
Wasn’t Morgoth “thrust through the Door of Night beyond the Walls of the World, into the Timeless Void” rather than being killed in the War of Wrath?
  • @melkor3496
Thanks this is one of the few things in Arda I actually didn’t know much about.
  • @the1tigglet
Actually, Morgoth didn't want to destroy the world or kill everyone he wanted to twist the whole of creation into evil and through that in the face of Illuvatar. He is the reason why orcs trolls goblins exist because he used his powers to influence them, causing them to reshape into ugly personas of their former selves. He of course knew there would be opposition and wanted the defenders dead but he didn't count on his brothers and sisters getting involved who then defeated him and took him out of the universe back into the void.

Melkor searching for the flame imperishable reminds me of someone who let's say is Christian and thinks that God lives in the skies. Eru created the Ainur with the Flame, so it was actually within Melkor, not sure if he ever acknowledged that. Great upload 👍🏽 It is only two days ago that I started rereading the Silmarillion. One random piece of information that fascinated me: Eru is the first named character, followed by Melkor, and third is... Ulmo actually, my favourite Vala!
  • @shanenolan8252
Oh thanks my friend unexpected pleasure this evening , great subject
  • @mightydwarf104
Great video mellon, can’t wait for more first age content
  • @PleaseNThankYou
I dig it ALL... Your stories, your artists selections (several I've never seen before!), and your voice. I can't roll the "R" so that always delights me. I never thought about Morgoth's influence over all of Arda as it was to be a "Ring". But now I realize how tightly knit /woven this reference is. Great job!
  • @sugplix92
In the rise of monotone AI-voices in all these lore videos, your videos are a breath of fresh air. Not to mention the finite detail and excellent use of images and tactical overviews! Thank you.
  • Fantastic video, I’ve just started reading the history of middle earth and would love to see more videos on lesser known law
  • One has a given amount of power that is finite... DAMMNNNN!!! THIS EXPLAINS SSOOO MUCH IN TOLKIEN'S MYTHOLOGY!!!!!!!!!!!
  • I think Men were made mortal precisely because they each hold a portion of the Flame Imperishable - which would also explain why they are said to be unbound by the Great Music.
