Green spaces and places of natural beauty aren't hard to come by around the city of Almaty. The Kolsai area may well be the most popular tourist attraction to take in during a visit to the city, the Kaindy lake is a must-take photo opportunity. The well-known Medeu, with it's amazing ice rink, is another of the popular places to visit, it's here you'll find some of the best skating in all of Asia.
Open spaces closer to the city that are interesting places to see are the Botanic Garden and First Presidents Park, with fountains and statues marking significant people in the history of the country included as focal points.
The Zenkov Cathedral, one of the great religious highlights of Almaty, is notable for its construction material - made out of wood, the grandiose site of prayer is unique in buildings among its type. The visit to the cathedral is one of great things to do in Almaty.
There's also plenty of museums to pass by and explore with celebrated figures in Kazakh history celebrated in a number of house museums.
