Yes, California stopped managing their forests years ago, with a huge push from the Sierra Club and other environmentalists groups. Now there are very few logging, which means no logging roads to access the fires when they break out. Also, clear cut areas would allow for breaks. When I was studying Ecology in college we had a visit from a Fireologist, she stated that fores like this happened over a hundred plus years ago all the time, but heavy logging in the early 1900s and the 40s kept everything in check. Sometime in the 70s and 80s, timber farming was forced to slow way down. Now we are seeing effects of letting it go with mismanagement of the land. Not to mention, this was set on fire by a 42 year old man who pushed a burning car into a canyon!
