Now that I think about it, butterflies are a symbol for transformation And there's a lot of transformation in this game more ways than one.

The reason it says Shin Megami Tensei is because the Persona series is a spin-off of the Shin Megami Tensei series that takes place in an alternate timeline. Persona is a very rare case of a spin-off becoming way more popular than the mainline series. You don't really need to know shit about SMT to understand Persona though, it's very loosely connected.
  • I love the line in the Persona 3 dancing game where it says "No mass destruction needed!" in reference to Persona 3's battle music

Persona 2 - rumors, gossip, myths Persona 3 - death Persona 4 - true self vs media/other peoples view of others Persona 5 - injustice just how i see the games theme
  • My favorite persona game is definitely Persona 3. I'm a sucker for death-themed anything, and this game is all about understanding what living truly is through the acceptance of the inevitability of death. To live in constant fear of death is no different if not worse than death itself. To live is to do. Memento Mori.

As a long time fan of the series I have to say the thing I appreciate most is how varied the vibes and narrative genres they are. Thats not even talking about the spinoffs P1&2 are overlooked thesedays but they are still solid classic rpg dungeon crawlers with tones that are closer to the mainline SMT series where shit hits the fan for the world on the get go. While 3 has its own intense themes, in contrast to 4 thats a bit more up beat while having a murder mystery. Not to mention 5 tackling heists as its genre to explore its themes with. Just very neat But yeah my fav is 3, was very much a game that was with me for some really lonely years of my like and its themes really resonate with me. Still my comfort game to this day.

So the entire Persona franchise is a spin-off from shin megami tensei, and Persona 2 has two parts innocent sin and eternal punishment. I believe that in eternal punishment you play as the female main character (Maya)

To help explain some stuff the guns are evolkers that summon their Personas, the Tarot Cards in P4 do the same and so do the Masks in P5, the difference between P3 and P3P was the 2nd Main character FEMC, some games aren't canon like the dancing ones since they are just dreams, the characters who are wearing blue and are seen with Igor the guy with the big nose are called Velvet Room attendants whose goal is to help guide the player.
  • Persona 1's color palette is suposed to be on a purple base. Though, a new Persona with a purple leitmotif could be fire.

29:42 teddie is the right translation it’s just that kuma is bear in japanese so assuming they went with teddie for the translation cos it works better as a name in english

So interesting to see the development of the series, as the first three games, Revelations, Innocent Sin, and Eternal Punishment, were a lot closer to SMT games since the series was finding its identity. In fact I think I remember seeing something somewhere that the person in charge of Persona considers Persona 3 as the first true Persona game or something, dont quote me on that, I could be misremembering, but 3 IS where the series seemed to get on track with what it wanted to become, rather than SMT in a different coat of paint. SMT is OLD SCHOOL btw, starting as Megami Tensei on the Famicom. Shame most of those older games never made it out of Japan I believe, but it was a niche genre at the time.
  • The reason that there are so many Persona 2s is that the game was split into two parts, Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment. These games were also remade for PSP, so thats why there are 4 P2 openings. Do they love Persona 2? Hell no. Atlus barely acknowledges the games before Persona 3, and I'd say Persona 4 and ESPECIALLY Persona 5 are their true loves, thats why there are loads of openings for P4/P5 related games.

As a side note, the main story of Persona 2 was split into two games.

Persona has ingame anime cutscenes so there’s why it looked like an amv, because it sorta is. Also each game part has a different vocal artist, also fun fact, all the songs are in english with some rare exceptions, it’s just the heavy accent that hides it
