AZ Rep Andy Biggs connects illegal immigration with fentanyl smuggling

Published 2023-04-02
This is from a Hearing on Combating the Fentanyl Crisis conducted by the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Federal Government Surveillance on March 1, 2023.

In his opening remarks, subcommittee chairman Andy Biggs (R, AZ 5th District) challenged the notion championed among Democrats and popular media outlets that the overwhelming majority of fentanyl smuggled into the U.S. is transported by U.S. citizens, through official Customs and Border Protection Ports of Entry.

Later in the same hearing, he pointed out the U.S. Border Patrol had about 2 million encounters with illegal border crossers in 2022 and that there were about 1 million known "gotaways" - and this massively prevents them from focusing on narcotics smuggling.
