Overland GUATEMALA: first impressions (EP 55)

Published 2023-03-25
Monkeys in the jungle, road blocks in mountains trails and new friends along the roads of Guatemala.

Last week we travelled through Belize and entered Guatemala, our 15th country on this World Tour journey. We share in this video our first impressions about this country. The ups and downs of our days on the road. Guatemala surprised us in many ways, it taught us to handle tricky situations on the road, but it also taught us that challenges lead to beautiful encounters, like this evening we met Joel and his wife.

Alongside the road also some of the most iconic sites of the country including Tikal and Semuc Champey. You want to travel the world? Subscribe to the channel and follow us along this journey!

Until next week,
Take care !
Nick & Mathilde

  • I can’t tell you enough how much I love you guys!! I think it’s fair to say, the majority of YouTubers would’ve used your road block situation as clickbait. Neither of you acted as victims and are aware that both tourists and locals have needs. You were respectful, stood your ground, and used your wits to handle the situation. Thank you for your moment of self-reflection and empathizing with people in the poorer areas of your travels ❤

Now I understand your overlanding adventures, you have taken us through remote, countryside dirt roads throughout Norway, Sweden, Canada, USA ,Guatemala etc. I love your raw adventure, you have avoided 95% + the cities and resorts throughout this beautiful Earth/ Worldđź’–
  • Once again, fantastic coverage, Mathilde and Nick. You handled the challenges on the road with such sensitivity and understanding. It is sad to know that people have to resort to extortion to survive. It is so special to interact and participate with local people—experiences that most tourists don’t get. I’m sure they enjoyed their time with you both, too.
  • Oh my word - this was amazing! Fascinating and frightening - the road blocks freaked me out! I love, love, love how you guys make friends so easily and trust people. Your videos are the best!

I am so excited to see you travel through Guatemala...the people are beautiful and kind. It does scare me too...the 80's were awful for these people and in some respect, it still is. I love the respect you give locals but still are firm. It is a hard situation for all. I assure your that language skills are an asset as well. It is always a pleasure to be an armchair visitor. Thanks for the beautiful video.

You are two very brave souls. Those road blocks would make me so uncomfortable. I admire how well you handle even the toughest situations. Keep it up.
  • The monkeys and the birds are incredible, you really captured them. Still watching! ♥️♥️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
  • "It will be tiring but you will learn a lot" - certainly true of your travels. Also, you meet some amazing people.
  • Your videos just get better and better! Awesome drone footage! Thanks for sharing. Safe travels!

I luv ur trip docs. I watch edited travelogues which don't show the local lifestyle. Y'all r kind people and I'm glad u found ur mojo with road blocks. Thanks for all ur hard work. Praying for angels to protect y'all.

What a friendly and generous family to share their lives with you like that.
  • Awesome video as always Nick and Matilda. It's always good to meet locals because you can learn so much from them and many of them just want to lend a helping hand to travelers.
  • @fgansell
Excellent video and you guys handled the road block dudes so well, thanks for showing us Guetemala, I am loving it.
  • This was very interesting and might be my favorite one yet. I like how you handled the road block situation and what a nice family you met later.
