This is my feeble attempt to capture the solar eclipse for any of my viewers not able to see it for themselves. The results are very disappointing although seeing it in person was truly phenomenal - well worth the drive. In retrospect, I wish I had spent more time looking at the eclipse instead of trying to make videos or take pictures.
While this video is very disappointing and will surely receive many dislikes. it does at least give my regular viewers a sneak peek of the current layout build in my workshop. There's also an out-take at the end.
Back to my regular model railroad videos tomorrow.

Thanks for the attempt, you always get a thumbs up from me. I hope you and your mother enjoyed it as much as possible.
  • I was able to view the total eclipse from my back yard. It was a wonderful thing. The clouds parted just in time. Thank you for sharing your view of the eclipse. ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜Ž

So glad you and your mum had a good adventure, Peter.

I live just north of Indianapolis and just inside of totality. It was the most beautiful event I have ever witnessed.

You got to spend time with your Mom, so that was a good outing in itself!โค๏ธ

Well at least we got to see mom & the pooch, lol. Thanks for trying Peter!๐Ÿ‘
  • Another treasured adventure with your mum. Thanks for sharing what you saw .. It was cloudy up in Toronto so I had a different experience than the July 10 1972 eclipse in Nova Scotia.

I drove 3 hours to northern Vermont to view the eclipse, 5 hours to return. Everyone tried to leave Vermont at the same time. For 3 1/2 minutes of totality. It was totally worth it! The sky was clear. No photograph can do justice to the experience of a total eclipse anyway (although the impulse to capture the moment is overwhelming). It's just something you need to experience.

You have some amazing images๐Ÿ‘ ...showing the wispy corona during the time lapse @3:05 to @3:14โœŒ๏ธ The outtake at the end was hilarious!

Thank you for sharing you donโ€™t need to do another video tomorrow as what you did was good. But if you do put one out tomorrow I will force myself to watch it
  • Peter, we covered the camera lens with one frame of the eclipse glasses. It worked!

That was better than what I saw in the UK in 1999. I was going to go down to Cornwall but the county was rammed so I stayed in Suffolk where I was living at the time. Saw that strange wave effect on the ground that was eerie. Is your Mum visiting from the UK or are you caring for her as she's elderly?

Peter, I do hope you and your mum enjoyed the adventure? Mark (see below), I did make it to Cornwall, but it was cloudy. We did, still, get to see the darkness coming towards us along the coast. I was on the west side of Falmouth, and it was really uncanny. What was funny was seeing all the flashes going off as folks tried to snap whatever it was they could see in the dark (dusk?). The dogs were spooked, and the birds did indeed go quiet. As the light came back a wave of applause spread along the coast, there must have been hundreds of people up there, it was really quite moving. Apparently we aren't getting another in the UK till 2090, so I may have to head off somewhere exotic to see my next one.
