Stolthet - “pride” Riktig - “right” or “upright” Etc. A lot of people don’t realize the names of IKEA items are similar to Scandinavian words, and are frequently plays on words, a favorite Scandinavian pastime. My favorite IKEA name… their version of Tupperware called “Prütt”, which means “fart”, a chippy reference to the old Tupperware “burp”.

Best thing I found at IKEA were a set of universal pot/pan lids. I think their name for it is "KLOCKREN". Often, using an alternative lid for a pot that doesn't have one results in condensation dripping outside the pot onto the stove. But these are designed with an inward slope and inner rim in a manner that the condensation just drips right back into the pot. I found 4 sizes, which fit most of my cookware. Interesting thing though, is their website does not mention this feature. Money well spent.

The Tradfri sensor is being replaced by a newer version called Vallhorn - it works in the same way, but takes two AAA batteries, rather than two CR2032 button batteries. The mounting plate of the Vallhorn is also a better shape for mounting in the corner of a room. The guy in my local IKEA said that all of the smart sensors and remotes that take button batteries will be replaced soon, as button batteries are not available in a rechargeable version.

I tossed out or gave away plastic storage containers and have lots of sizes of the glass food storage. Can confirm that they are just as useful, washable and handy years after purchase.

I love the 365+ food containers, but my favorite are the stainless steel ones. They stack beautify into each other so they're easier to store than glass. I don't even own a microwave so them not being microwave safe is not an issue. I like that they sell the lids separately so if they ever get damaged, or stained and grimy, they're easy to replace. Another fun part is you can mix and match the glass, stainless steel and plastic containers and the lids (also multiple kinds) will fit all of them. They also sell inserts and little chopping boards that double as lids for them.

I love watching Mars having a stretch and showing his belly, happy dog = happy home!

Because plastic seems to absorb the smells of onion garlic or curry, when I store foods with these ingredients in the glass dishes with the plastic lids, I always always always fit a rectangle of baking paper between all of the plastic lid and the food in the glass container. That way no smell gets to the plastic clip on lids. Also, if some of this food isnt eaten, just wrap the waste in the baking paper to throw in the bin, or you can freeze it till bin day.

So many great items I did not know about - the curtain hooks are a must. The cutting board will be great for my tall husband. The light sensor is very interesting, I will have to read about how it works. Thanks!
