For nearly 40 years, #Nissan has offered a sporty, premium flagship sedan in America called the #Maxima. The #NissanMaxima has always been the flagship for the Nissan lineup and while sedan sales have suffered a lot over the year, the company managed to sell about 3,000 units in January 2019. Having some much history helps and with so many Maxima fans out there, the current generation gets a slight tweak for 2019. Standard LED headlights, a new head unit, and additional safety features make it a more attractive premium sedan but is it truly the four-door sports car that Nissan wants you to think it is?

Happy Saturday everyone! That Avalon Touring that you see in the background will be making an appearance in an upcoming comparison test! It should show up in a week or two, until then... Let us know what you think would be the winner: The Avalon Touring or Maxima SR?

People who’ve never been inside a maxima will always judge it until they’re inside the beast and now you’re a fan!💯

To everyone hating on the car remember this one is still pretty quick

Regardless of a CVT (which is one of the primary complaints of non-buyers) the Maxima is still one of the best selling imports out of Japan and will continue to be mostly due to the fact that it has a unique range of buyers. It appeals to younger, middle-aged, and older crowd. Myself and my family have owned two and both were one of the best cars we ever owned, with the exception of the 6th Gen I had (pre CVT) in which the transmission had to be replaced twice. Not sure where people are getting reliability issues from, because the Maxima is one of the most reliable vehicles on the road. The motors in these cars are solid. I own a Lexus SUV now and planning on getting a sedan to go with. Another Maxima is definitely on my list. Most people who complain about the vehicle have never even driven or owned a Maxima before. I see comments comparing it to German cars. German Cars are trash. At least at $42,000 you get real leather in a Maxima. A $67,000 Mercedes E-Class comes standard with Leatherette. AN E-CLASS STANDARD WITH LEATHERETTE! Ridiculous. German cars are offering 6-Cylinders as an option because its coming standard with twin-turbo 4-Cylinders which are horrible at best. They may drive nice but the maintenance is ridiculous. I'll take this "crappy" Maxima with a CVT over ANYTHING German anyday.

Maxima’s be looking so clean in the summer time with that roof. I have to have one. SR, black rims, roof. I’m jealous everytime I see one

Pretty crazy to see what Maxima’s look like now. I still currently drive a 1999 Maxima with the old 3.0L. Bought it in 2004 for $9,000 with 70,000, and now has 310,000. Worth about $2,100 now, haha. Still going strong.

Im on my 6th Max. '95, '00, '05, '13, '16, '19. I love em. Best bang for the buck. Lil sport, lil gran touring, lil luxury. Great car. AWD would crush competition.

I have a maxima and love it. I don't think of it as a sports car. It's a comfortable, powerful car with great gas mileage. It's quiet, smooth and I love how it looks. Yes there are other cars out there that are better, as it is with any car.

I too have leased/owned 7 Maxima’s since 1999, so I’ve had every iteration at least once. Currently own the 2017 black platinum which has all the amenities to which I’ve become accustomed... bird’s eye view cameras—perfect for parking, blind-spot warning and navigation. Since it’s only myself and husband, we don’t worry about back seat room or heating. Split back seats, rear sun screen and fold down arm rest is perfect for holding extra beverages during long road trips. Most important improvement over 2015 model is Intelligent Cruise Control, which works so well in changing traffic. Panoramic roof; driver’s seat memory, front seat heating and cooling are also great. I live in NY City suburbs, so no mountains or forests to deal with so FWD is just fine. Satellite radio and navigation are also convenient when you’re not sure where you’re going—or want alternatives in congested areas. All in all, I’m very happy with the car (except for a persistent, inconsistent squeal in my breaks, even after they were all changed). We’re rolling the dice again, going for the 2019, just waiting for them to find either Gun Metal or the Red, and it’s like 🎄 can’t wait to see which color they find first. Maybe it’s not a sports car, but it’s sexy and sporty enough for me.

I've driven one and the CVT was fine. It gets up to speed very quickly without a ton of rpms. It's deceivingly quick because it doesn't have to shift. And at normal rpm the cvt is not obnoxious at all. No need to floor it all the time. CVTs just take some getting used to. I hate them when paired to the 4cyl (i.e. Altima) but the Maxima was a whole different animal. Very quick and refined without the need to floor it. I could fly by people at 3000 rpm.

Y'all got to drive the car before you knock it. It's a sexy, great commuter. It gets going quick

I love how you do your reviews. It’s a very neutral and real review. Not too opinionated, just highlighting the facts with some subtle likes/dislikes here and there.
  • @DhruvDrives
They call it a sport model and give it CVT. Unacceptable
  • @mackr6845
By far one the best looking new sedans on the market right now. I would choose this anyday
  • @byronhawes72
I'll wait two years for depreciation to hit then I'll buy
  • @mooeing
Its funny how everyone was so excited about a 300hp camry when nissan has had a 300hp sedan since the vq35 was out.
  • @spearphillip77
I’m so glad they brought back the panoramic roof option on the SR. that engine sound pretty stellar tho. #TeamMaxima 😍
  • @KirkKreifels
It looks great! Marketing this as a sports car is almost false advertising lol.
  • @DANNYN224
The cvt transmission is what killed the nissan models and why not awd like altima
  • I have a 2019 SV and LOVE it. I never get why people complain about the noise a door makes when you close it, makes no sense. Anyway, great fuel economy, fast if you need it to be well equipped and looks great. Who cares if the key system has been used for a few years, it works.
