PHOTOGRAPHING SHORT EARED OWLS- MY BEST ENCOUNTER

Published 2023-12-01
This video is about photographing short eared owls. I have spend many days searching for short eared owls with varying degrees of success. I finally had my best birds of prey photography encounter with these fantastic birds. Bird photography doesn't get much better than this. In this video I talk about the right direction of light and camera settings for this type of wildlife photography.
Owls are such iconic UK birds and short eared owls are one of my favorites.

Nice one Steve, such a great bird and I seem to have missed the best year for them in the UK, lol... That's always the way! Great work mate, lovely environment images and video. Cheers Rich ๐Ÿ‘

Hi Steve โ€ฆ. excellent video as always. SEOs are wonderful birds and my favourite UK owl species. We seem to be having a good winter for them this year. I bumped into you on-site on your second day and I was pleased to finally meet you given that I have been following your channel since your EWT BHF video over 2 years ago and since I live just down the road from you in Basildon. You may recall that I was the โ€œsherpaโ€ that carried some of your gear back to your car before you did your final piece to camera!
  • Great video as always Steve. Beautiful photos & footage ๐Ÿ‘ so great to see so many SEOs popping up all over the UK

Wonderful photos , your patience paid off. I always find it thrilling when wildlife acknowledges your there and sometimes you feel like they understand what your doing and they put on a show. ๐Ÿ˜…

Great video and stills Steve - that light is awesome. Always really nice to see these majestic birds, especially if you manage to capture one. Rainham Marshes has one sighted recently too. Take care mate.
  • Fabulous images Steve, there used to be several locations in Northamptonshire to see and Photograph SEO, not this Winter so far. I need to get myself over to the fens๐Ÿ‘

Lovely images Steve. Glad you found our favourite spot eventually ๐Ÿ˜€I've found you can still get sharp shots when the light goes if you drop down to 1/1000 or even 1/500th sec sometimes lower when desperate as most of the time their movement isn't too rapid. Dave C

Great Stuff well done and glad we spoke on my way out of the reserve last week.๐Ÿ‘
  • Great photos and footage Steve. My only criticism would be to say that you included no normal-speed clips. Slo-mo is all very well and nice to see when it serves a purpose, but I am somewhat of the opinion that is is over-used. Normal speed footage portrays the true "jizz" of the species, which is key in helping beginners understand what to loo out for in the field. That said, you captured the stills and footage with your usual skills and aplomb! ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Steve, I really enjoyed the video, stunning birds aren't they. A spot where I go regularly a shortie has been seen, what times of day do you recommend to spot em? Love the images and footage, cheers Lee ๐Ÿ“ธ๐Ÿ‘
