I'm a single man learning to cook. This video was so straight forward. Ma'am, you are an awesome teacher. You made it really simple and easy. Thank you.

Your video means alot to me. My mom always told me that there were weeks when she was a k8d, where her family didn't eat anything but beans and rice. She lived in a family of six, an older sister, older brother, younger sister, and mom and dad. Even though the family pitched in, they still struggled alot and they were pretty poor. They make the most amazing beans, but I never learned how to make them. After watching your video I was able to learn how my family got by. It's such a small thing, and you won't look at this, but I appreciate it so much. Thank you.
  • Dear Alma, I was born and raised in San Jose, California and this is the first most authentic way I have seen to make refried beans. Your last comment about your daughter truly got to my heart as my son is so spoiled with spending $12 a day on Taco Bell, and those delicious bean burrito's your daughter makes with these beans are probably only 25 cents a piece at the most after you include gas stove, oil, cheese, and rent. LOL God bless you and your familia!!!

I LOVE RE-FRIED BEANS!!! My wife is Texican and she makes these beans about once a week. She fries them in bacon grease for extra flavor and lessens the salt needed. She also chops up the onion half that was not used in the boiling process, and uses it in the frying process. The house smells so good while they are cooking (slow boil, her total time is about 4 hrs), that I keep stealing little bowls throughout the cooking process. Add some of her home-made tortillas and who needs anything else? (Maybe a cold beer!) Thank you for this. :D

Great Mexican food heritage. May all people who cook like this & who eat like this be happy & healthy.

My mom made the best beans, God rest her soul, she has since passed on! She would rinse the beans, and let them soak over night ( to get white in color). For r,refried beans (we would have for breakfast), she would fry bacon, and used the bacon grease in the refried beans. OMG! The beans were so good!
  • I work evenings and nights so Getting laid off because of Covid and having to learn how to cook for two boys and my wife was difficult. People like this are amazing. This is the recipe I use every time I cook. I hope this lady knows how much I appreciate her.

Made these yesterday! Will be my goto now! Raised on beans, but mine were not as good. It is the slow cooking that makes them great!!! Thank you! And they make awesome burritos!
  • You just saved my life I’m now retired in Thailand and you have no idea how much I miss Mexican food. This is so easy to do next time I go to the big city I’m finding me a 20 pound bag of beans and some tortillas don’t forget the cheese and all live happily ever after
  • Im going to try every one of your recipes. Thank you for taking your time to post these video's. Cooking has become a passion in my life and I like learning from someone who knows what they're doing with traditional foods be it Mexican, french, southern soul, or asian or whatever. Again, thank you.

Very good recipe and instruction, thank you. I lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico some time ago. I heard a story from a friend of mine about some fancy nutritionist coming to New Mexico about 1920 or so, before New Mexico became a state. He supposed he would see lots of evidence of malnutrition. What he saw was a thriving community who ate beans and rice regularly; this is a perfect protein. They also ate a lot of vegetables in season and some meat, chicken and fish, but in moderation because it was hard to come by. I still love making a really good rice and beans recipe, wonderful for breakfast, lunch or dinner!

Made it today, best beans I’ve ever had. Instead of the onion at first I did cloves of garlic. Everything else I did the same. Yum!
