being team gale in 2023 is actually insane

Honestly? I never hated Effie. Compared to other characters, she's never malicious. It's genuine innocence, not understanding. She hadn't really had the chance to. Yet she chooses to grow instead of turning a blind eye, which she easily could have done.
  • It gets even worse when you realize that effie has never done a victory tour before. Like you said, 99.9% of all the kids she's taken to the games died. You can see how calm she is in the first movie. bubbly yes, over the top, yes. But nervous, hell no. She's done reapings a dozen times before, but this victory tour is her first one ever. She's so nervous for everything to be perfect because this may never happen again in her entire career. For the first time, the children she had led to their deaths didn't die and she wants to make sure that everything is going to go perfectly for them

being team gale even AFTER reading the books is absolutely insane man.

Genuine Question - HOW can you be Team Gale?? There is literal no competition here, it was always Peeta
  • @swembemmy
wow I had NO idea anyone was actually ever team Gale?? I truly thought that was only a movie marketing tactic brought about by Twilight's Team Edward & Team Jacob. Especially since in the books, Katniss's inner monologue makes it VERY obvious that Gale was never thought about romantically at remotely the same level as Peeta. You can really see the division in Mockingjay particularly when Peeta isn't with them in District 13, how vastly differently Katniss and Gale view the rebellion and what they should and shouldn't be doing in regards to the war (and then Gale becomes the Prim Reaper which is a whole other thing lol)

The prequel is not meant to reddem snow, its meant (at least to me) to show how snow got to where he is, both politically and in his personality

"You never get off this train." Now I understand why Haymitch turned to the bottle. Not only does he have PTSD from his own game but he also had to mentor two children that might be killed in a grotesquely violent way, but he also is a celebrity. He has to always be a specific person. Trying to be someone you know you're not would drive you completely bonkers. Alcohol would take the edge off the insanity.

This is still my favourite movie of the franchise. I love that it introduced Finnick and Johanna, two of the most complex supporting characters. Finnick was forced to prostitute himself to save his family from the Capitol, which the last book goes into more detail about, while Johanna's family were killed because she refused to.

the Gale praise is actually crazy like I can’t imagine liking him that much and thinking he’s better than Peeta; like brushing past the incredibly important and beautiful scene on the beach cause you like Gale more is crazy! if you’ve read the books you know just how important that kiss was to Katniss and how much it changed the way she thought about love and her feelings for Peeta as a whole
  • @didinau
Peeta: I don't have a right to be jealous, so here is my support, care and love for you, I don't ask for anything in return Gale: bUt wHy dOn't yoU lOvE mE? How can anyone be team Gale??? 😭

Sadly, you skipped the scene where Katniss comes out of the tube thing and sees the arena for the first time. The way she is panicking, but then composes herself... goosebumps!

Katniss 100% deserved Peeta. She went back for him even in the first game when it was a disadvantage for her and she went into the bloodbath and risked her life to get medicine for him on the off chance it would work and almost died for it and Peeta saved her life after she shot Coin and went back to District 12 even after he got brainwashed to hate her to plant Primroses for her. It was always Peeta. Also everyone around her made it about Katniss and used her as a pawn and her entire goal in this movie was to save Peeta. Ten sins for you Cinema Wins!

6:56 "she doesn't owe him a romantic relationship" honey.... pls keep that sentence in mind and then re-read every Katniss and Gale scene in the book, pls-

The scene where Peeta paints Rue I think is often misunderstood. In the books they try and cover it up before Katniss gets in there and its only after that she finds out what he did. It wasn't to upset Katniss, it was to basically give the finger to the Capitol and the gamemakers and to honor Rue. It is a scene that I think shows just how much Peeta also hates the Capitol and how the Games and the people in them impacted him.
  • One of my favorite details of the scene when Katniss hangs Seneca Crane, is that in the books, Peeta's painting of Rue wasn't intended for Katniss. It was intended for the gamemakers, to send them a message, that they STILL don't own him. Katniss had to wait a really long time for her turn because the gamemakers tried to scrub the painting away, failed, and ultimately just covered it up. Katniss went in and uncovered it, seeing the painting, and resolved to follow Peeta's example and send the gamemakers a message of her own. It's a great evolution of the first book/movie, when Peeta tells her he wants to still die as HIM, to show that they don't OWN him, and Katniss admits she can't afford to think like that. Now, she's inspired by his defiance to defy in her own way, and it's always been one of my favorite parts of her character from the books. I think it's still beautiful in the movies but doesn't land quite the same, imo.

The tribute interviews scene is my favorite part of the movie. Even though not all the tributes are in on the plan to overthrow the Capitol, they are united in this moment to try and call off the games. Everyone in this group has gone through this song and dance. They have experience with playing to the audience and presenting themselves as people who you wouldn’t want to say goodbye to. Each individual feels charismatic and interesting, making it really feel like they were the protagonist of their own story, making it even harder to swallow that so many of them are going to die.
  • Will never understand how someone can be team Gale, he is selfish, genocidal and tries to gaslight katniss into thinking she should love him. He did good things but I never thought it was a love triangle, since the first time I watched this I knew Kat and Peeta would be together and Gale just never had a chance. Dont know about the books though.
