  • I'm actually kind of upset that with all these various fighting game ports, there was no mention of one of the best original iOS fighting games to ever be delisted, Flappy Fighter.

that dudley doing a bnb in a sub 30 fps, delay based netcode mobile version of sf4 is amazing

i remember playing sf4 during classes with buddies and at summer school when we were burnt on cod zombies mobile

Surprised to see nobody talking about the iOS port of Street Fighter x Tekken, it was a genuinely impressive feat for a touch screen. I remember it looking stupidly crisp for a mobile game at the time, and the the local Bluetooth multiplayer was surprisingly functional. Check it out sometime!

Kof 2012 is a blast, it’s actually so fun despite being on mobile, and they found a great way to deal with the execution difficulty.

This was such a wild time in gaming. Playing Street fighter 4, GTA, Mega Man X, and even Jet Set Radio on iOS seemed cool at the time but so wild now

You're absolutely right, these were my gateway into fighting games as a whole. Back in 2013/2014, I was a kid with an iPhone 4 who relied on GBA emulation and mobile versions of fighting games because I was on vacation in Ecuador and couldn't play these games on console yet. I played the mobile versions of SFII (which also had Champion Edition and Hyper Fighting), SFXTK, SFIV, and MVC2.

I played so much of that MvC2 port, like I actually could do small neat combos with the normal controls and unlocked everything in a few days. also put an insane amount of time into KoF XIII and SF4 ios ports back then... was better cause I had someone else to fight against locally was my weird way to get into fighting games besides when I found SF4 AE for $10 at Gamestop
  • @StockeTepes
Wow that Soul Caliber 1 port really does look good! Surprised how well it seemingly runs too, especially compared to the others here
  • @CherryPixelBun
The iOS version of MvC2 was how I played it as a kid since I didnt have a Dreamcast, a PC capable of emulating it, nor was able to buy the 360/PS3 versions that were delisted. It and UMK3 were the best way to kill time on the way home from my freshman year of highschool

Good thing you’ve mentioned Vita Fighters. It was ported from the PS Vita, and I’d say the mobile version is an improvement with the current updates.

Great video! Those MK3 models look surprisingly a lot like their 2D counterparts. Also thanks for bringing up KOF 2012! I thought that game was delisted, I don't know when they put it back on but now I can play it again :D

SF4 Volt was my intro to traditional fighters. i have fond memories playing it at school with friends over bluetooth.
  • I had UMK3 on iOs. Still my favorite fighting game of all time. I’ll never forget the hours upon hours of learning all the characters specials and dial-a-combos.
  • While I first played it in an arcade at four years old, I grew up with that mvc2 port for a number of years. I rarely got passed the first match, but I still played the hell out of it anyways. It’s arguably what got me into fighting games. I also remember the game running a lot faster too so maybe it’s a glitch that occurred over time due to the delisting and aging of the game overtime or something. I think it’s based off the ps2 version because of the sound effects and the title screen.

What a blast from the past to see old iPhone games.
  • @rolandkatsuragi
I can tell that opening QSound jingle was from one of the Darkstalkers games

KOF 2012 Is pretty much THE standard for mobile fighting game ports. It really strikes a good middle ground between a simple control scheme but still having the mechanical depth of the game it's based on. They even still give an option to use actual normal commands, to the point that when I finally got my hands on MAME and kof2002 I knew a bunch of the commands already just through experimenting. It truly really got it right so early on lol.

oh hell yeah, these were good, espcially umk3 ios, still have these actually!
