I'm proud that Ganondorf is finally top tier in something relating to Melee
  • @HRCtypo42
Great to see some in-depth informational content about HRC! Hope to see more in the future :)
  • @TNinja0
Seeing someone named ssj3vegeta on a leaderboard is peak 2003 moment.
  • @Pen7Ninja
I remember seeing stuff online and roughly replicating bat drops and such. I obviously wasn't perfect but I was always so confused as to why my distance was like 1/3 of the amount other people online would get until I realised my game was in metres instead of feet...
  • @ZXMany
This is so impressive! Seeing the hands on a GameCube controller when someone is pulling off this feat looks like it has the speed of someone mashing keys on a keyboard when they're pretending to type fast, but the precision required for pulling this off is unbelievable
  • Trying to optimize my HRC is honestly my favorite single player content in Smash. There's something so addicting about trying to get just a few hundred more meters out of the little sand dude.
  • 80,000+ feet? Gonna have to start worrying about the world's curvature and reaching escape velocity at that point.
  • @b.clarenc9517
Mid 2000's I spent countless hours grinding HRC, despite having no skill nor strategy. The "Ready?" and reset sounds are probably stuck in my memory for life.
  • @Abyssoft
Looks like there's a typo at 17:18, the titles should be switched, Low% Alt Finisher should be over the right column, and High% Bat Swinger should be over the left column.
  • @Zeekfox
I used to do these a long time ago. Part of the precision is L-cancelling the landings. Normally, landing after an attack wouldn't let you jump again so quickly, but if you press L (the button for shielding) at the right time, you'll cancel the landing animation. I feel like that one's worth a mention. Non-glitch Ice Climbers is a fun one though. I don't remember if it's the WR strat, but I recall doing bat drops with Popo using down-air while Nana does a forward air, which has the meteor property. This is accomplished by holding down slightly when having Popo drop the bat as Nana actually catches it. Then she can do the rest of the bat drop with Popo already in d-air animation. I spent so many hours on that.

“Whats so hard about it?” Dude I still remember trying to mess around with the HR derby and it was SO hard. Trying to do it at their levels is insane.
  • @funkydinosaur
I had no idea how bloody interesting HRC was; amazing vid Abyssoft!! Thank you brother - keep up the top tier content!
  • @jamespayne8252
YES!!!! NEED A HISTORY VIDEO!!!!!! Love the channel and content!!! I could watch to a 3-4 hour video on this topic, literally just found out about the home run challenge and want to know more. Hell I could watch a 3-4 hour video on any speed run game. Thank you for opening eyes and showing me what all there is to see and do in the speed running world, keep up the great work.
  • Fun fact: wade boggs actually came up with the idea for a home run derby while watching his son play melee. He quickly got in touch with the melee community and the rest is history. RIP Wade, youll benmissed

KenshinXx was my tag back in HRC. Narrowly lost the race to 100k to PrinceTidus. First to use batdrops with IC's (preglitch WR), Up A Falco BD's (double hit) lol, and single jump Fox BD's WR. Great video. Very nostalgic
  • @thesuntitan
Back when I couldn’t travel to tournaments, around 2006, HRC was my jam. I’m glad to see players are still finding out new stuff!
  • @SAPANNow
Lmao I love how the ice climbers send it literally 16 miles hahaha that’s awesome
  • @justinreusnow
I want a history video!!! I’m so glad this video was made, it’s wonderful to see this niche community I used to be a part of get some time in the spotlight. I spent more time in Brawl’s HRC than Melee’s, but they both have very rich histories and strategies that are perfect for this format. Please make more!

Great video. Another detail with Roy is that the fully charged flare blade doing 50% damage has less knock back than the partially charged 41% flare blade.
