I carry a plastic grocery bag so I don't have to put trash in the seatback pocket. Gum wrappers, used tissues, used wipes, etc. all goes in the bag during the flight. I allow my seat mates to put their trash in it as well. When the flight attendant comes around to collect trash, it is bagged and ready to go. No more forgotten trash for the next passenger to deal with.

Travel pillow… I removed the stuffing, added Velcro, and that’s where I carry my bathing suit, cover up, and change of clothes (fresh shirt at least for colder destinations) in case luggage doesn’t show up right away (or at all). Especially handy when flying on vacation.
  • Instead of a travel blanket, I like using a big cashmere-blend scarf. Nice and warm on the plane, and then it's an accessory on the trip, including an extra layer of warmth when needed. I was really glad to have it last month in London!
  • As a past Health and Safety director for Pan American, I never ever wear anything made from plastic (poly etc) because in a fire, plastics melt.
  • @JP-lu9ed
During Covid I bought two multi pocket gardening vests to replace a purse for long walks and they’ve been wonderful for flying. I fill them with what I need accessible on the flight so don’t have to dig through the personal bag much. I wear the vests under blazers and roomy sweaters when at my destination. So I only bring a little dressy purse for nice evenings out. Otherwise I’m purseless . It’s great freedom and more hidden/secure.
  • @ros8986
IN my purse (which is a crossbody bag) I have all vital things attached on lanyards so I don't lose them - wallet, eyeglass case, phone, passport, keys. All the lanyards are clipped to the purse so I can remove any of them if I want to. I am thinking when packing a personal item bag I will do some of the same so I can feel confident about not losing things.
  • Excellent video! A couple of thoughts though from a former biology teacher… If the seat pocket is “germy,” then we’ll pick up germs all over a fabric (porous) “protector” that we’ll then put into our bag. 😳Same for slippers on the nasty floor of the plane. I always cringe when I see people heading to the bathroom in their socks. Some suggest disposable shoe covers (like surgeons wear) that can be discarded rather than sticking germy slippers back in your bag. BTW, Saw a study revealing germs on bottom of shoes and always pack my shoes inside disposable bags. (Fabric shoe bags help but they’re porous.) I save plastic bags that cover toilet paper or that clothes are shipped in or whatever looks like it could serve this purpose. Free is always good but more importantly, it’s a good way to get more mileage before it hits the landfill.
  • I bought one of those neck pillow cases that you can stuff with clothes. It is hopeless as a neck pillow but perfect as lumbar support. I also take my neoprene water shoes in my personal item to change into on the plane. They are super lightweight and have waterproof soles but stretchy tops so they accommodate my swelling feet and allow me to use the bathroom on the plane without contacting any icky stuff. I toss them in a plastic bag at the end of the flight and wash them when I get to my accommodation.
  • @grepora
I wear two pairs of socks (the outside pair being old tube socks) and carry a plastic grocery bag when going through TSA. Once through TSA, I remove the tube socks and stuff them in the plastic bag then put it my pocket. No dirty floor residue in my shoes. I also bring a double clip plastic hanger. If anything needs washing or gets wet, I clip it on the hanger and hang it in the shower to drip dry.
  • I always have a couple of Clorox wipes in a sandwich bag and a plastic bag large enough to go into the seat pocket. Then I can use the seat pocket by lining it with the plastic bag. When done, I take it out and make sure it is inside out (so ‘dirty’ side is inside) and ready to use again. Wipes for table, arm rests, seatbelt, headrest, recline button and touch screen. Then in the sandwich bag ready for garbage. Love your videos. Fellow Canadian here!
  • I like different colored pouches inside my bags. If the bag doesn’t have too many pockets it’s easier to find them. I can’t remember which pocket I put things in. 😂 When everything is black it disappears. The Baggallini bags have light colors inside making it easier to find things.
  • @susansmith864
I carry a slim wristlet bag just large enough to take phone, driving license, passport and a credit card. This stays on for the whole flight. Were I ever to be in a crash I could evacuate leaving hand-luggage and still have the basic essentials. If you've got a super-picky airline luggage limit then you can slide it into your personal item when boarding and take it out at the seat. The wristlet bag is also smart enough to double as an evening bag at my destination.
  • @neresq
Thanks for the tip about the EarPlanes. The pain and muffled hearing, usually from descent, is real for me when I fly on smaller aircraft such as A329/320/321s or B727/737s. I paused your video just so I could go order a pair for my upcoming trip. Now here's a tip I'll share: you can fit 4-6 antibacterial wipes into an amber plastic Rx bottle. I've been using them for many years to pack what we need for entire trips -- at a fraction of the price we'd pay for those "travel sized packs" that never really re-seal well. I pack one bottle for the outbound flight, one for each hotel room/cruise cabin, and another for the return flight. The wipes stay perfectly moist (sorry, but the word fits), but don't leak.
  • @miyagi1775
I always carry a Sawyer Mini kit (mini filtration with a collapsible water container). There have been times where I arrive very late at night and all the stores are closed, the only water source was from a faucet…in a south American country.
  • I pack different things into bags that feel different. So I can reach into my bag and tell without looking or if it’s dark exactly what I want.
  • @shellynevard5089
I carry a sarong which is a large rectangle of fabric you can wear in various ways over a bathing suit. It also serves as my in flight blanket.
  • @yakarobed
I have a small zippered bag that I have for my in-flight necessities; earbuds, lip balm, eye drops, small lotion, meclizine, pen, etc. I looked for one that had some kind of ring where I could add a small carabiner clip. I can usually attach this clip somewhere on the seat back in front of me, often the arm of the tray table. This way my essentials are always in reach but not in the seat back pocket. Another must-have for me is a small collapsible cup with a lid. I have tremors so those little plastic cups that drinks are served in are not the best option for me!
  • @dawn4224
For trips I wear an oversized wide but thin scarf. This becomes my blanket because I can open it up and it covers my torso. This scarf is a sarong actually and folds super thin when I arrive at my destination. No one ever questions this accessory.
  • Instead of a travel blanket, I carry an oversized, but thin, merino wool wrap. I can use it as a blanket on the flight and as a wrap at my destination. I tend to visit cathedrals a lot and in hot destinations the tank tops/camisole type tops I wear are too bare for a church, so I pull out my wrap and I’m good to go. When it is cool at night, the wrap also works for evening events.
